ALX Guide: The 3rd Arrondissement of Paris

November 05, 2021
2021-11-05
The 3rd arrondissement of Paris is perhaps one of its most unique districts. For one thing, it bears the moniker “Quartier du Temple,” thanks to its history of grand churches and massive temples. Does the place still look as grand as its name? Unfortunately, those impressive structures are all but long gone. What the 3rd arrondissement is today, however, is a bustling area with trendy cafes, cool shops, and a hip scene that only Paris can muster. From the beloved Musée Picasso and Musée des Arts et Métiers to the foodie haven that is Marché des Enfants Rouge, there's a lot to expect in this part of the city.

Is The 3rd Arrondissement of Paris Safe?

Yes, it is. The 3rd arrondissement has consistently remained one of the safest areas despite how high the crime rates in Paris tend to get. And it's impressive too, considering that the district is known for its nightlife. Despite how lively it gets after hours, the 3rd arrondissement is still a safe place overall. There are barely any areas worth avoiding and security is pretty tight in some places. However, because of the sorts of establishments here, the 3rd arrondissement isn't exactly a suitable place for families. The are other, quieter districts where families can live in peace.

What to Do in The 3rd Arrondissement of Paris

As already mentioned, the 3rd arrondissement is largely referred to as  “Quartier du Temple,” thanks to the many grand churches and halls that once stood here. Though many of them are gone, some like Saint-Nicolas-des Champs and Saint-Denys-du-Saint-Sacrement, have stood the test of time. If you're an art lover yourself, you'll want to check out Musée Picasso and Musée des Arts et Métiers, two of the best art museums in Paris. They're also home to some of the most famous artworks ever created. And of course, you can't go to Haut-Marais and not party in its lively nightlife district!

Staying in The 3rd Arrondissement of Paris

If you're moving to Paris, should you stay in the 3rd arrondissement? Yes, you should! Or at least, check this place out and see if it's your vibe. Haut-Marais, just like the Marais district itself, is a trendy part of the French capital. It's one of many cool hotspots where Parisians and tourists alike will hang out from dawn to dusk. The area is also fairly residential, with many long-term rentals worth calling home. The apartments here are clean, comfy, and many are big. You'll easily feel right at home here!

Paris Apartments for Sale in The 3rd Arrondissement

Although we specialize in renting luxury apartments in Paris, it's still worth noting that there are many homes on sale in the 3rd arrondissement. From studio units to big penthouses, the district's real estate market is always abuzz. Do take note, however, that buying property in France, let alone in the 3rd arrondissement in Paris, will cost a lot. Just how much is it? Well, the price per square meter in Paris ranges from a minimum of €6,500.00 to a maximum of €14,000.00. Multiply that with the number of square meters in your property and you're bound to pay in the hundreds of thousands or millions!

3rd Arrondissement Paris Restaurants

If you're the type to eat out a lot, you might as well move into the 3rd arrondissement! This is one of the best neighborhoods in Paris for foodies as it boasts an extensive culinary scene. Pavillon de la Reine on Rue Place des Vosges stands out thanks to its head chef, the brilliant Mathieu Pacaud. He never fails to whip up a hearty feast worth labeling “haute cuisine.” There's also Bistrot Instinct on Rue de Picardie, perfect for those who can't afford to eat at the fancier, Michelin-starred restaurants. But while its food may be more affordable, the quality of its French cuisine remains as high as ever.

Here are more of the best restaurants in the 3rd arrondissement.

Best Boulangerie in The 3rd Arrondissement of Paris

Another reason why the 3rd arrondissement is the perfect place for foodies is that it also has many of the finest bakeries in Paris. Some of these beloved boulangeries include Le Moulin de Rosa and Tout Autour du Pain on Rue de Turenne, Ernest & Valentin on Rue Réaumur, and Sain Boulangerie on Rue des Gravilliers, to name a few. They all offer the sweetest cakes, the most delicious pastries, and some authentic baguettes from Paris. What's not to love?

Called Haut-Marais, the 3rd arrondissement of Paris is a treasure trove of hip hotspots, cool vibes, and lots of nostalgic charms. It may not be the most famous area in the city, but it's still a place worth exploring or perhaps even relocating to!
