November 04, 2021
2021-11-04
To get to know Paris, you need to know more about its arrondissements. The French capital is made up of 20 arrondissements, each more unique and fascinating than the next. Naturally, the first one and the center of it all is the 1st arrondissement. This is where you'll find the Louvre, arguably the most famous museum in the world, the chic Rue Saint Honoré, and the luxurious Place Vendôme, among many others. Apart from those popular attractions, the place also has numerous upscale restaurants, beautiful parks, and of course, a plethora of the most luxurious homes in Paris.

Is the 1st Arrondissement in Paris Safe?

The 1st arrondissement in Paris is indeed safe! Though the crime rates in Paris aren't exactly low, there are still some places that are generally safe. The 1st arrondissement, also one of the more upscale districts in the city, is one of them. It helps that the arrondissement is a famous tourist spot thanks to the Louvre Museum, among many others. Since many tourists go here, it makes sense that security is fairly tight in the area. Locals would say that the part near Les Halles is a bit sketchy, but overall, the 1st arrondissement is a safe place.

Is the 1st Arrondissement in Paris Expensive?

Yes, it is. The living costs in Paris are already quite high, but it's even more so in the 1st arrondissement. The minimum price for rent in this part of the city is a minimum €1,000.00 per month, and that's just for a solo apartment in Paris. What more if you're raising a family in the French capital? Numbeo reports that it typically costs a family of four around €3,973.10 per month to stay comfortable in Paris. And that's on top of the rent! Add to that the upscale restaurants and shops in the area and you'll be spending more than you what you bargained for!

Is the 1st Arrondissement in Paris a Good Place to Stay?

If you can afford to live here, then yes, it is. Moving to Paris and living here is already expensive, what more if you stay in one of the more affluent parts of the city? If money is no issue for you, then you'll love staying in the 1st arrondissement. Naturally, one of its biggest perks is getting to stay near the Louvre. Imagine being neighbors with some of the world's most iconic artworks! Moreover, you'll also be near several of the city's poshest restaurants, boutiques, and more. Luxury shopping is the name of the game here and the haute couture labels are only a stone's throw away!

What to Do in 1st Arrondissement Paris

Shopping and eating are the best things to do in the 1st arrondissement. You'd think that going to the Louvre would be the number one activity here but you can just leave that to the tourists. It's fair to say that one visit to the museum is enough if you're not that much of an art lover or a history buff. Beyond this world-famous gallery, the 1st arrondissement is one of the city's glittering districts that define the luxurious Parisian lifestyle. Shop along Rue Saint-Honoré or Place Vendôme where you'll find the biggest French names in Fashion. Among them include Louis Vuitton, Cartier, Balenciaga Chanel, Dior, and more.

As for eating in the 1st arrondissement, you couldn't have found a better place to let out your inner foodie. The area is a treasure trove of fascinating hotspots, from Michelin-starred restaurants to chic bistros. It's located on Rue Montorgueil and is famous (some would say infamous) for its garlic-buttered snails. Though it has other delicious dishes too (e.g. beef fillet with foie gras), that helped it become one of the oldest restaurants in Paris that have stayed open.
