February 03, 2021
2021-02-03
It's finally February, the 'month of love' and the shortest month at that! Though here in Milan, February always means it's time for Fashion Week. A whole week of fashion shows where the biggest houses and most famous designers present their latest collections. You probably can already tell that this week is one of the busiest times of the year here in Milan. Most, if not all of the fashion industry descend unto the city. If you're one to visit Milan during fashion week, you might not know what to do and where to go, right? Well, let this post help you with that!

Dress To Impress

First thing's first, always dress to impress! Just because it's fashion week, it doesn't mean that the best styles only have to be seen on the runway. In fact, more often than not, the people who watch the shows dress just as nicely and the models walking onstage. Celebrities, socialites, fashion journalists, social media influencers, and more. They all don their best designer pieces and act as if they're the ones modeling for the designers. And during fashion week, they're often seen wearing Italian brands, ones that they came all the way to Milan to see. So do try to catch up if you're here then!

Improve Your Italian

Sure, the international fashion press, as well as loads of other stylish stars from all around the world, gather in Milan during Fashion Week. So it's not as if you'll only be meeting and bumping into Italians while you're here at this time. However, learning the language of the place you're going to, no matter what time of the year it is then is always a good thing. You'll have an easier time going about. And if you are lucky enough to attend the shows, the people who will be escorting you to your seat will likely be Italian too!

Visit The Fashion Hub

If you're in-between shows and have nowhere to go, instead of going to the usual tourist spots, you can always hang out at The Fashion Hub. It's a staple among Fashion Week-goers in Milan. Located in a wooden domed-roof building, it's an exposition that tells you all of that you will see during Fashion Week. Many times, it's also a congregation of the industry's finest, complete with talks, forums, and conferences about anything surrounding what's going on in fashion today. Not to mention makeup sponsors like Mac and L'Oreal Paris offer free makeovers to people there too! What's not to love?

Go For A Luxury Rental Instead

Have no place to stay? Don't worry! Milan has a bevy of luxury apartments you can rent while you're here during Fashion Week. As already stressed, this time of the year sees Milan at its busiest. Traffic jams on the streets, crowds in public transport, and the shopping districts are crawling with shoppers 24/7. And, of course, all the best hotels, inns, and other accommodations are booked solid. If you weren't fast enough, it's likely you won't get to book a room during this week. So as a great alternative, you can always rent a beautiful Milanese home for a short-term stay!

Don't Forget To Eat

Please don't think that since it's Fashion Week, you have to forego eating! Sure, your schedule may be packed and everything, but that's no reason to avoid having a meal in some of the best places Milan has to offer! Fortunately, the fashion industry has become rather inclusive nowadays in terms of body size, so you don't have to be afraid of eating during this time. If you don't, you risk endangering your health and well-being. If you're not careful, you might spend the rest of Fashion Week in a hospital instead of watching the shows!

Charge Your Phone (Or Bring a Powerbank)

During Fashion Week, you'd want to keep your phone ready to snap some amazing shots. You never know which celebrity might bump into you here and there. Not to mention you'd want to take a pic of your favorite outfits during the shows! So to ensure that you maximize every opportunity, make sure you charge your phone before heading out. Keep it connected to your charger overnight if you have to! Or, when all else fails, bring a power bank just to be safe! As long as you do any of that, your phone will be handy at any moment! And on that note, buy a local SIM card as well, it'd really help!

You Can Always Livestream Instead

What if you can't go to Milan yourself? Don't worry! There's always the internet! Thanks to the power of technology, just about everyone in the world gets to have a front-row seat at the Milan fashion shows! For a decade or so now, designers streaming their shows online has been a common practice. It's a great way to let as many people as possible know what they're offering for the next season. And in a lot of ways, live streaming is a better option too! You won't have to hassle yourself going to the venue, you'll see detailed shots of the clothes themselves, and you get to enjoy this experience from the comforts of your own home!
