With so many amazing parks, beautiful gardens, and serene escapes, it's easy to pick a spot for a picnic in Paris. In fact, you can even argue that Paris is made up of picnic spots left and right. About every corner to turn to in the French capital, there seems to be a peaceful space where you can lay out your picnic blanket, organize your spread, and enjoy eating with your friends and family. However, why not go for a more unorthodox place for your next picnic in Paris? Spots that you wouldn't have ever expected would be great for a picnic. Here are a few!
By The The Seine River
A stroll, painting, a romantic rendezvous, and cooling your feet off after a long walk. There are things you can do by the banks of the Seine River, it's no wonder why it's such a famous part of the city. but did you ever think of holding a picnic here? It's so easy to lay out your picnic blanket, put out the food, pour the wine, and simply relax by the serene river. If you're looking to take someone out on a date, nothing could be more romantic—and more affordable!—than a picnic by the Seine River.

Arènes de Lutèce
If someone were to tell you that you can go on a picnic at a Roman amphitheater in Paris, would you ever believe it? You should because that's not necessarily as far-fetched as you think! Arènes de Lutèce is one of the more
underrated tourist attractions in the French capital. It's one of very few remnants of the Roman Empire in Paris and in France, in general, making it quite a rare spot in the country. And since there are stars by the amphitheatre where the gladiators once dueled to the death, there's no reason why you can't have a picnic and imagine what that must have looked like eons ago!

Square des Batignolles
Since this is a list of 'unexpected picnic spots,' you'd think that parks wouldn't be anywhere near it, right? The
parks in Paris are some of the best picnic spots in the world, so why would anyone think of them as 'unexpected.' Well, perhaps the most famous ones, like Jardin de Luxembourg and Jardin de Tuileries, are expected, but Square des Batignolles definitely is not! This nature park is more like a reserve than a patch of public land in the middle of a metropolis. Think forests, cliffs, and waterfalls instead of flowerbeds, fountains, and manicured patches of grass. Who could ever think of going on a picnic in such an adventurous place?

Parc de la Villette
Another unique Parisian park that's perfect for holding a picnic in Parc de la Villette! Though this is a lot more 'expected' than Square des Batignolles, it's probably not atop many people's list on where to go for a picnic in Paris. This is because, compared to the more famous parks, Parc de la Villette is virtually unknown. It's also the most modern-looking park in the entire French capital. Dominated by Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie a whole host of avant garde sculptures and the like, it doesn't have that classic Parisian touch but it's still great for a picnic nonetheless.

La Campagne à Paris
Finally, there's La Campagne à Paris in the
20th arrondissement! A slice of the French countryside in the capital city, this place has a rural charm unlike any other. It's still very French in its quaint appeal and charming vibe, but it's so quiet and peaceful here, you almost couldn't believe it's still within the busy Parisian metropolis. Now, when it comes to picnics, it's up to you to find a bench, a garden, and the like to lay out your stuff. On a very peaceful day with little to no people around, you can also hold your picnic on the tree-lined steps at 7 rue C. Bombois.
