Let's face it, most people go to the UK just to visit London. Even during summer! Although there are countless other places in the country that's perfect for a summer holiday, London remains the top tourist destination here! No matter how hot it is, people will stay in London to see the sights, eat the best food, and experience what it means to be in this historic city. However, do note that during this season, it can get really hot! And within such a bustling metropolis, the heat can overwhelm you! So what do you do to survive summer here? These are a few good suggestions!
Avoid The Tube
Even though it's the best, easiest, and most efficient
public transport system in London, you might want to avoid
the tube during summer! If you can afford it, take a taxi instead. Or go for an air-conditioned bus. Better yet, since it's summer, why not cool off by renting a bike and cycling your way around the British capital? During the hottest time of the year, the underground metro of one of the busiest cities in the world becomes an oven. You'll be sweaty, the people around you will be sweaty, and during peak rush hours, you'll also be scrunched up together like a can of sardines. Doesn't sound too thrilling, does it?

Go For Ice Cream
Ir probably goes without saying but the best treat to indulge in during summer is ice cream. There's no replacing that ice-cold sensation of a spoonful of creamy goodness on a hot summer day! Or licking up the scoops in a cone as you walk around trying to make sure the melting dessert doesn't go to your hand and make it all sticky. Fortunately, here in London, there are countless ice cream places to go to when you want something sweet and chilly to help cool you off.

Run Through Water Fountains
Now, this may sound childish but, in the heat of summer, you just gotta tell yourself, 'who cares!?' When it's so hot outside that you start to lose your mind, all you really have to do is to find the nearest park and run through the water fountains. It's free, fun, and, of course, cool as can be! Probably not cool in the 'trendy' sense but it will have you feeling good amidst a summer heatwave in the British capital. Some parks where there are such water fountains include Hyde Park, also a
great place to walk your dog, the Granary Square fountains at King's Cross.

Hang Out in Rooftops
If you didn't know it yet, rooftop bars, spaces, and the like are a dime a dozen in London. In fact, none other than The Beatles themselves played an impromptu rooftop concert at their house on Savile Row. Perhaps this was what prompted various establishments to make use of their own rooftop spaces? Either way, spending the afternoon, enjoying cocktail hour, or partying all night long in a rooftop bar or nightclub will make you feel cooler than ever before. Add to that the amazing views that you'll get in many of them!

Rush To The Nearby Beaches
It's such a shame that the UK is located in proximity to the likes of France, Italy, and Spain. The beaches of the latter countries are some of the finest in this part of the world, making those in England pale in comparison. Nevertheless, it's the seaside shorelines near London that people in the city escape to when summer is at its peak. Though you might need to rent a car if you don't have one, it's worth every effort you exert and every cent you pay just to reach these white sandy paradises. The Camber Sands in Sussex, Botany Bay in Kent, and Mersea Island in Essex are just some you can go to that's near the British capital!
