Spending Pride Month in Los Angeles

June 21, 2021

Los Angeles! The home of Hollywood, a city where 'dreams come true.' In many ways, it's also a city of many possibilities even for the LGBTQ+ community. With the glamour of showbiz and open and liberated society, LA has become somewhat of a gay haven. So when Pride Month comes, you bet your butt that the city celebrates it unlike any other. They don't just simply decorate 'Tinsel Town' with rainbow flags and glitters! They go all-out in commemorating and highlighting a community that has long been discriminated against and marginalized. Here's what to expect when you're in Los Angeles during Pride Month.

Pride Night at Dodgers Stadium

Stereotypically speaking, the LGBTQ+ community, particularly the 'G' part of the community, and sports have always been at odds with each other. However, as many amazing athletes have proven in the past, excellence in sports does not discriminate. And during Pride Month, neither does the iconic Dodger Stadium. Started back in 2013, it's become an annual tradition for this famous stadium to hold 'Pride Night,' a special event where sports and the LGBTQ+ community collide. The Los Angeles Dodgers play a special game against another team, drinks overflow in the many Pavillion Bars, and parts are happening all over the stadium! It's definitely a fun night!

Embrace Diversity in The LGBT+ Community

Los Angeles is one of the most diverse cities in the US. African-America, Latino, and Asian communities have all flourished here. You've probably already seen it from the many movies and shows set here. So during Pride Month, it's important that you get to know the plight of the LGBTQ+ members of these communities. If you think all gays, lesbians, transgender men & women, and non-binary folks face the same problems, you're sadly mistaken. During Pride Month, various communities tell their stories of struggle and survival, particularly the LGBTQ+ people of color. It's important to listen to their stories to know just how multi-dimensional, complex and complicated this community really is.

Watch A Drag Show in LA

Thanks to a certain show called 'RuPaul's Drag Race,' the art of drag has become extremely popular both within the LGBTQ+ community and beyond. And since the show is filmed in this city—and many of its famous winners and former contestants have settled down here—it's safe to say that the drag scene here is second to none. During Pride Month, some of the most beloved drag queens, whether they were on the reality hit TV show or not, put on special shows and performances to commemorate the event. It's going to be a fun time seeing them strut their stuff on stage!

Party At The Hottest Clubs in LA

All throughout the many districts of Los Angeles, there are a lot of clubs and bars where you'll definitely have fun. Even more so during Pride Month! It's no secret that the LGBTQ+ community knows how to party. They always have the best songs, know the best movies, and have been setting trends left and right. So what if you were invited for a special Pride Month party in some of the best nightlife hotspots in the city? You'll be having fun until the early hours of the next morning. Notably, the gay bars in West Hollywood, like The Abbey Food & Bar and Micky's West Hollywood, will be the hottest places to visit!

Go Wild at Pride Month Concerts

Frank Ocean, Sia, Janelle Monae, Troye Sivan, Lil Nas X—these are just some of the hottest acts in music today that are proudly part of the LGBTQ+ community. Not to mention some of the most popular allies like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, and more. So, what does this have to do with Pride Month? Well, every year, concerts are held in Los Angeles, the hometown of many of these A-list celebs, in honor of the month-long holiday. If you're lucky, you might just get to see some of these big names perform live!

Celebrate Love At The Pride Parade

It isn't LA Pride without a parade! Just like in every other major city around the world, the actual pride parade is what many people in Los Angeles look forward to during this month. Rainbow flags decorate the streets of 'Tinsel Town,' people glad in their most flamboyant outfits proudly strut their stuff, and at times, even big-name celebrities join in on the fun. This is all in the name of showing the world that the LGBTQ+ community exists, are proud of who they are, and will no longer allow themselves to be discriminated against or marginalized by the powers at be.
