Although a different place holds the title of the 'Honeymoon Capital of The World,' Italy's Lake Como ought to put up a good fight. To say that this destination is romantic is an understatement. Think of all the classic love stories or romantic period films you've encountered and it's easy to imagine that many of them took place in this very region. Fairytale-like castles, classic villas, stunning gardens, all surrounding a clear and serene lake make for such a romantic setting, it'll be easy to fall in love with your significant other all over again here.
Varenna
As far as charming villages go, none can hold a candle to Varenna. At least, when it comes to setting up the right mood. One of the more beautiful
cities of Lake Como, Varenna is a feast for the eyes. The colorful houses, the opulent villas, the cobblestone streets, the historic castles, and more! Just about every corner belongs on a postcard or an Instagram post. And since it's located by the lake, the serene town makes for a great location for a romantic rendezvous. Villa del Balbianello
Just how romantic is this 18th-century villa located by Lake Como? Well, Villa del Balbianello has seen its fair share of beautiful weddings. Since it was renovated back in the early 20th century, it's become a popular wedding venue for lucky couples who could afford to say their vows here. That alone is proof enough that this historic structure is one of the most romantic spots in Lake Como. But even if you're not getting married here, just taking a nice stroll around the stunning villa, through the manicured gardens, and watching the sunset by the lake are the peaks of romance!

Villa Carlotta
Another villa that's just beaming with romance is Villa Carlotta. At first glance, this stark-white mansion located right at the shore of Lake Como looks almost eerie. Forget about romance, the place seems perfect for a horror story featuring a haunted mansion! That is until you actually get to see the place yourself. The stunning interior, well-managed gardens, the serenity of the coastal veranda make for a great setting for a love story. It's no surprise that just like Villa del Balbianello, Villa Carlotta has also become a popular wedding venue in Lake Como.

Giardini di Villa Melzi
Botanical gardens surely make for great romantic settings, don't they? Just look at the
gardens in Rome! They're all so beautiful, it's no wonder the Italian capital is known as a prominent 'city of love.' Here in Lake Como, there's Giardini di Villa Melzi! This strip of gardens on the lakeshore of the Bellagio peninsula is heavenly. It's so cinematically beautiful that you can't help but imagine having a whirlwind romance in these very gardens. As for the most romantic spot, it will definitely be by the pond. A small bridge surrounded by colorful trees looks straight out of a classic novel or a period film!
