A few weeks from now, the Cannes Film Festival 2022 is set to take place. Just as it has always been year after year—except during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic—the famous coastal city along the French Riviera welcomes A-list celebrities, prominent filmmakers, incredible artists, and even a few supermodels to boot. It's a glossy and glamorous affair to celebrate the very best in filmmaking. Many potential blockbuster hits will premiere here, not to mention possible contenders for well-known accolades such as the Academy Award and the like. For this year's edition, the festival’s 75th-anniversary celebration and many highly-anticipated Hollywood Films are just some you can expect!
Celebrating The Festival's 75th Anniversary
This year's Cannes Film Festival is pretty historic since it marks the 75th year of the international event. And this is despite the fact that the Covid-19 pandemic had to cancel the standard event back in 2020. Instead, they staged a special digital edition later in the year. Since it was founded back in 1946, the international film festival has highlighted excellent filmmaking for many decades. It helped put such revolutionary visionaries to the forefront, including Federico Fellini, Stanley Kubrick, Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorcese, Pedro Almodóvar, Quentin Tarantino, Bong Joon-Ho, and many others.
A Woman-Led Diverse Jury
Unlike last year, where American director Spike Lee acted as the jury president during the Cannes Film Festival 2021, this year's edition sees a woman, Tunisian film director Kaouther Ben Hania, take on the important role. She leads a diver jury comprised of many prestigious names in the movie industry, most of whom come from different parts of the world. There's French-Greek actress Ariane Labed, Belgian cinematographer Benoît Debie, Icelandic director Benedikt Erlingsson, and South Korean journalist Huh Moon Yung, among many others. They will be tasked to decide which among the many exciting entries will win the festival's coveted awards, not the least of which is the iconic Palme d'Or.
Special Screenings of Ukrainian Films
Perhaps the most surprising among the many entries for the Cannes Film Festival this year are the few Ukrainian films set to premiere at the event. As the country fights for its independence against foreign invasions, the fact that they were able to submit a few films for this year's roster proves that the Ukrainian identity is alive and well. One of the entries, 'Pamfir,' is the debut feature of Dmytro Sukholytkyy-Sobchuk, one of Ukraine's promising young directors. It tells the story of a poor laborer who undertakes a bootlegging job that gets him in trouble with a dangerous gang.
Highly-Anticipated Hollywood Movie Premieres
Hollywood often participates in the Cannes Film Festival and this 2022 edition is no different. In fact, this year's festival is bound to be more exciting since a slew of highly-anticipated films is set to premiere. One of them is the long-awaited sequel to the 1986 cult classic, 'Top Gun.' Tom Cruise reprises his iconic role of Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell in 'Top Gun: Maverick,' now alongside new cast members, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connely, Jon Hamm, and Glenn Powell, among many others. Baz Luhrmann's biographical film, 'Elvis,' stars Austin Butler as the legendary rock icon, Elvis Presley. The film sees Luhrmann's return to musicals after his highly successful 2001 jukebox musical, 'Moulin Rouge!'

See The Red Carpet on TV
Of course, the Cannes Film Festival 2022 isn't complete without its glamorous red carpet. Through the years, this part of the event has gotten more attention, thanks in large part to Instagram and other social media platforms. But this year, however, fashion-lovers and fans, at least in France won't just have to rely on social media to get a glimpse of what the celebrities are wearing. The Cannes Film Festival has partnered up with France Télévisions to give an all-access coverage to the famous red carpet event. TV viewers in France will be able to see all the gloss and glamour live, as it happens in real-time!
Lots of Glamorous Events
The return of the Cannes Film Festival also marks the return of many glamorous events along the French Riviera. This, of course, includes a slew of exclusive parties attended by big-name celebrities, social media influencers, and the like. One of the most hotly-anticipated in the annual amfAR Cannes, a charity event where the cream of the crop of the fashion industry gets to socialize with Hollywood's elite. Swiss jewelry brand Chopard and American magazine Vanity Fair are also set to host after-parties, battling it out to see which of their events will get the most number of A-list attendees.
Following 75 years of cinematic excellence, the Cannes Film Festival 2022 is bound to be a momentous event in the world of filmmaking. From highly-anticipated movies to history-making releases, there's a lot to look forward to in this year's edition!
