As the world approaches the end of the year, it's time to prepare for what's to come next. Here in Paris, there are already many events in store for January 2023. Of course, the holidays will start the year right. New Year's Day and L'Épiphanie are always such festive occasions, not just in the French capital, but in the rest of the country too. Fashionistas who will spend the month in Paris also have a lot to look forward to. From the start of the winter sales to
Paris Fashion Week, it's bound to be stylish 30 days ahead!
New Year's Day (January 1)
Although
New Year's Eve in Paris is a lot more exciting, New Year's Day, January 1st, is worth noting too. Do note that since it's a holiday, many establishments will be closed on this day. This includes various museums, restaurants, and even cafes in Paris. With that said, there are few attractions that remain open. Not the least of which is the iconic
Moulin Rouge cabaret,
Disneyland Paris, and of course, the Eiffel Tower too. Whether you choose to spend time indoors or go out on the town, there are still many things you can do on New Year's Day in Paris.
L'Épiphanie (January 6)
Five days later, there's another important holiday in France to celebrate:
L'Épiphanie! Known to the rest of the world as “Epiphany Day,” this commemorates the moment the Three Wise Men met the newborn Baby Jesus in Bethlehem and gave him their gifts. As a result, it's become a tradition for adults to give little ones all sorts of gifts, sweets, and more during this holiday. And in France, in particular, they have the pretty unique
Galette des Rios tradition. This refers to the flaky holiday cake that most French families serve on L'Épiphanie. It's accompanied by a fun game wherein you have to find which slice has the
feve.
International Artists Live in Concert
Similar to the past year, various international artists will perform live in Paris this 2023. In January alone, you can expect Chinese rapper Jackson Wang and New Zealand singer & songwriter Kimbra. The former will perform at the Zenith Paris Parc de la Villette in the
19th arrondissement on January 15th. Wang rose to fame as a member of the KPop boy group, Got7, but has since gone on to pursue a solo career under his own record label, Team Wang. Kimbra, on the other hand, who will perform at the La Boule Noire on Boulevard Marguerite de Rochechouart on January 26th, is known for her mix of different genres, ranging from R&B and pop to jazz and even rock.
Start of Winter Sales (January 11)
As it is the month after the holidays, numerous stores are bound to have lots of stock. And so, come January 11, 2023, the winter sales in Paris will begin. All throughout the city, from the
famous department stores to even small boutiques, various clothes, accessories, and other items will go on sale at great discounts. You won't want to miss it, especially since shopping in French Capital, itself also a fashion capital, is often expensive. This is your chance to get your hands on the finest
French designer goodies at lower prices!
Paris Men's Fashion Week (January 17 to 23)
Speaking of French designers, they'll also be extremely busy this January 2023 in Paris. Why? Because there's not one but two major fashion weeks scheduled this month. The first is the Paris Menswear Fashion Week which will start on January 17th up until the 23rd. This is the event where menswear designers will show off their latest collections for the upcoming autumn/winter of 2023. All the big names in Paris fashion will take part, including Dior Men, Valentino, Dries Van Noten, and more. It's also safe to expect that the many
districts in Paris will be pretty busy during that time.
Paris Haute Couture Week (January 23 to 26)
Following right after the menswear shows, from January 23rd to the 26th, is
Haute Couture week. Also among the most highly anticipated events in the fashion industry, this is where the city's
most famous haute couture houses will show off their spring/summer 2023 collections. They include Chanel, Christian Dior, Valentino, and more. This is among the most highly-publicized events, not just in January 2023, but in the entire year. Haute couture is famous for its exquisite craftsmanship and exclusive rights in Paris. What the designers will present on the runway is likely what many celebrities will wear on the red carpet.
It's only January 2023 but the city of Paris is already back to the old grind! With so many events in store, people here will hardly take a break after the busy holiday season. And they wouldn't have it any other way!
