March 28, 2023

Ahh, San Francisco! Have you ever known a more electric place? There are tons of other great cities in the US, sure, but there's just something about this particular metropolis that stands out. So much so that it's even a great place to bring your dad to when you want to celebrate Father's Day with a bang! If you truly want to show how much you love your old man on his special day, take him to San Francisco. Here, you can catch a baseball game, play golf, tour Alcatraz Prison, and even cycle through Golden Gate Bridge. Perhaps even lots more if you still have the time!

Tour Alcatraz Prison

If you and your dad are thrill-seekers, then touring the infamous Alcatraz Prison island should be at the top of your itinerary for your Father's Day Weekend in San Francisco. Often touted as the scariest and most haunted place in the US, this former penitentiary once housed some of the most dangerous criminals in the US. It has since stopped operating as a prison back in 1963, eventually becoming one of the most popular tourist spots in the city. And while there's no entrance fee on the actual island, you'll need to buy a ticket for the ferry that will bring you there.

Cycle Through Golden Gate Bridge

Why spend your day in San Francisco looking at the iconic Golden Gate Bridge when you can cycle through it instead? If your old man is still pretty active, this is a great way to exercise while you're in the city. Don't worry if you didn't bring your own bike. There are tons of rentals around that can help you with that. The important thing is that you have the right gear to keep you safe. Once you do, you can cycle your way to what is perhaps the most famous spot in all of San Francisco.

Catch a Baseball Game

Did you know that the most popular sport in California, specifically in the Bay Area, is baseball? Sure, the city is into American football and basketball too, but they go wild for baseball as well! And if your and your dad are the same, then don't miss the chance to watch the San Francisco Giants, the hometown team, play! They mostly play at Oracle Park, a coastal stadium where the energy is always at an all-time high. You'll both really feel like locals when you cheer for the Giants to get as many home runs as they can!

Play Golf

More than just watching a sport, why not play a sport here as well? Though your dad is probably already of a certain age, isn't he? If his kid can take him to San Francisco or any other awesome destination out there, then he's likely not the most active or agile anymore. And if that's the case, there are only a few sports that he can still do. One of which is golf. Many men of a certain age play it. Perhaps even your dad! Luckily, San Francisco offers a ton of great courses where you and your old man can play. Paired with that signature California sunshine, it's going to be a fun Father's Day weekend ahead!

Go Bar-Hopping

Once night falls, it's time to go out on the town. San Francisco is known for its exciting nightlife. With so many bars and nightclubs throughout the different districts of the city, you might end up spending more time outside at night than you did during the day. Moreover, just because your dad has reached a certain age, it doesn't mean he can't or shouldn't have fun anymore. You're supposed to celebrate his special day, right? For Father's Day, let him let loose, go wild, and have the time of his life. Just for this weekend, you be the responsible one!

Watch a Drag Show

Speaking of bars, there's one kind of bar that you and your old man shouldn't miss in San Francisco: the drag bar! Look, just because your dad is from another generation and from another time, it doesn't mean he has to stay in the past. It's high time you lead him on a more progressive path and what better place to do that than in a drag bar in San Francisco? The city is already well-known as an LGBTQ+ hub, so the drag shows here are stellar! Even if he's new to this stuff, he'll have a gay old time (pun intended)!
