Winter can get a bit much in the
US, right? It just gets so cold, you're practically frozen even in the comforts of your own home! At least, this is the case in a number of the big American cities. These major metropolises are awesome, sure, but admittedly, you're better off avoiding them around this time of year. Instead, why not go to the south? The American South hasn't had a good rep over the years, specifically because of the politics here. However, cities like New Orleans in Louisiana, Magnolia Springs in Alabama, and even Miami in Florida make for great winter holiday destinations! They're perfect for escaping the cold.
Magnolia Springs, Alabama
Most of the southern state of Alabama stays relatively warm during winter. The weather is mild enough that you can go outside without too many layers and remain cozy and comfortable. You'd definitely want to do exactly that when you visit Magnolia Springs even in winter. This small countryside town captivates with its rural charms; practically a world away from the urban madness of the big cities. Well-known for its abundance of oak trees, the orange-tinted remnants of autumn make for quite a magical sight. And of course, its peaceful atmosphere is refreshing in what's usually a busy season.

Miami, Florida
Winter in Miami? Well, why not? Though the vibrant Floridian city is most famous for spring break and summer parties, the relative warmth in the southern state during this time of year makes it a popular holiday destination. Just how warm does Miami stay even in winter? Let's just say that you can still go to the beach and not freeze to death. You can even get some good sun if you're lucky! Even when the winter season is pretty eventful in Miami, the beaches are less crowded, making them a great place for you to rest and relax.

Phoenix, Arizona
Staying in Phoenix, Arizona won't just help you escape the winter cold. It'll bring you closer to nature too. You ordinarily spend the cold season indoors, don't you? You bundle up in blankets, sit by the fire, and drink hot cocoa. Not in Phoenix! With the city's warmth in winter, you can easily go out and enjoy a more adventurous time in the season. And it's perfect since Phoenix is famously near the Sonoran Desert, one of the most fascinating open lands in the country. Why not enjoy a hike or even go camping here?

Bowling Green, Kentucky
Truth be told, Bowling Green isn't the warmest city in the American South during winter. The weather is mild, sure, but it's not as warm as many of the other places on this list. Snow isn't even that rare here. Though it's far from what you'd see on the northeastern coast, it's still pretty common to snow sometimes here. So why should you still go to Bowling Green, Kentucky in winter when you want to escape the cold? For the city itself! The novel and nostalgic charms of Bowling Green are enough to keep you smiling! Just schedule your trip to a time when it's still warm here!

New Orleans, Louisiana
If you plan to go to New Orleans in winter, schedule your trip near the end of the season. Perhaps around February. It's not that the city is warmer as the seasons transition from winter to spring; New Orleans remains warm all winter long. The reason for this specific time, however, is the city's iconic Mardi Gras festival. With jazz playing all around, colorful costumes worn all over, and people partying everywhere, it's an event you shouldn't miss! New Orleans is famous for its Mardi Gras, which is annually held in February.
