It's hard to decide where exactly in St. Barths is the best place to stay. The island simply has loads of beautiful beaches to visit. Each with their own unique features that make them a favorite among the world's elite. However, there are a few things about Lorient beach that help make it stand out. This isn't your ordinary beach in St. Barths. Here, you can do a whole lot more than just swim and sunbathe.

9 Reasons Why Lorient Beach Is The Best Beach in St. Barths

Beautiful Dark Sands

Before you push Lorient aside because it's not a white sandy beach, just think about it a sec. White sandy beaches are a dime a dozen on an island like St. Barths. Practically the entire island of the Caribbean territory is outlined by countless white sand beaches, all probably overcrowded with tourists and locals. But at Lorient, with its distinct dark sand, it's a welcome change. For one thing, white sand is often so hot that it hurts. Here, the dark sands are largely cool and just right. Second, because not a lot of people are into dark sandy beaches, Lorient beach won't be as crowded.

See The Turtles

Don't you just love sea turtles? How they waddle adorably and funnily on the beach. And when they reach the sea, their true majesty comes out. They swim so beautifully in these salty waters that seeing one is often a photograph waiting to happen. And on Lorient beach, you'll have more than a few opportunities to capture them yourself. The beach is filled with sea turtles, nestling away and hiding their eggs. If you have a keen eye, you just might find one hatching, welcoming a cute new addition to the family. But please, don't disturb these gentle creatures when you're there!

Perfect for Surfing

Surf's up dudes! Possibly one of the main reasons that Lorient beach isn't as crowded as others in St. Barths is because this beach is more of a surfer's paradise. The strong waves and dark sands make it quite the hotspot for these cool sportsmen and their boards. In fact, the waves here are so rough that sometimes, beginners are often recommended to avoid surfing here. It's only for the experienced elite and at times, even they can't handle the waves here. Still, if you're an experienced surfer yourself, you'll find no better area to cowabunga than here at Lorient beach!

Beautiful Coral Reef Nearby

A common and fun activity to do in St. Barths is to snorkel. You never know what you might find under the sea here. The Caribbean is known for its spectacular underwater ecosystems. Colorful fish swim here all the time, some you will never see anywhere else. But at Lorient beach, it's another underwater stunner that will take your breath away (literally because you're underwater!): a beautiful coral reef. And it's even near the shore! Even kids can swim to it and see this magnificent ecosystem in all its natural glory! Let's just hope it remains untouched until you get back!

Amazing Restaurants Nearby

Part of what makes Lorient beach an amazing get-away destination is the food. Though it's one of the least-crowded beaches on the island, you'll still see the shore lined up with various restaurants, mostly serving amazing hearty dishes. Le Bouchon, for instance, serves up some highly delectable steaks and pizzas, harkening back to the great cuisines in Europe. Le Tamarin, on the other hand, is a luxurious hideaway that offers mouth-watering pan-seared tuna and tasty carrot cake for dessert. Set in a lush garden overlooking some amazing views of surrounding mountains, it's a must-see when you're in the area, that's for sure!

Charming Village of Pleasant Locals

Wherever you may be, the place just livens up better when you're surrounded by locals. Fortunately, the villages near Lorient beach have some of the nicest people you will ever meet. The culture in this area is largely welcoming, mostly because they're used to tourists visiting here. A lot of them will greet you, smile at you, and probably even help you out when you're in need. Though this can't be said about some places on the island. A lot of the other areas have been so exclusive that people who go there no longer meet locals. They're just in the more private parts of the island.

Party at Eden Rock

Speaking of the private areas, there is one near Lorient beach that's worth checking out. The famous Oetker Collection built up their five-class Eden Rock resort right smack near the stunning beach. And here, you can enjoy happy hour and even party all night long. Almost every night, this usually peaceful first-class accommodation transforms into a nightclub, hosting prominent DJs and serving delicious drinks. It's a welcome change of pace from the more relaxing and quiet activities in St. Barths and near Lorient Beach particularly.

See the Ruins of Autour Du Rocher

Before Eden Rock, there used to be another party place that locals and tourists alike flocked to by the time the sun went down. It was called Autour Du Rocher, and during the late 20th-century, it was one of the hottest disco clubs in the area. The juxtaposition of the wild and free parties this place hosted and the more lax lifestyle in the Lorient beach area fascinated people who went here. Unfortunately, however, the place eventually closed down and got demolished. But you can still see some of its ruins in the area. And they're quite the sights to behold too!

You can Get a Burger at Jojo Burger

Finally, there's one place on Lorient beach that you must go to when you visit here. And it's one of the many places that make this area so amazing. It is, of course. Jojo Burger! Yes, a burger joint by the sea seems very common, probably in your home country as well. but that's the charm of it. In a place that's mostly exotic to all those who go here for vacation, Jojo Burger provides a tinge of the familiar. It's also simply a great place to get delicious burgers for you to snack on while you hang out on the beach.
