Where to Take Your Whole Family in Rome

Rome isn't exactly what many would think is a family-friendly city. It's a romantic city for couples on their honeymoon. A bustling metropolis for businessmen who want to climb up the corporate ladder. Not to mention a treasure trove of inspiration for history buffs and cinephiles alike. Rome is a great city, the 'Eternal City,' but is it a place for families? The answer is yes, it is! If you take your family to Rome (or even move here altogether), you can bring them to the Colosseum, the Museum of Illusions, the Vatican, and the Trevi Fountain, among many other places. They'll have a great time!

Vatican City

The Vatican is one of the best places to take your family in Rome. It's as educational as it is beautiful, complete with museums that detail the history of the Catholic Church. Though the little ones will have to be on their best behavior, it's a small price to pay to get to visit one of the most astounding sites in the whole world. Sure, the kids might not enjoy the Vatican at first, but when they grow up, they'll better appreciate that they've been to a place that millions of others can only dream of seeing.

Colosseum

The Colosseum is another of Rome's popular spots where the whole family can have a good time. Don't worry! The place has kid-friendly guides that are perfect for the whole family. Even though the Colosseum's history isn't exactly family-friendly, these professionals explain it in a way that kids can easily understand. They leave out the gory details and simply share why the place is an important part of the Italian capital and human history. They can even make what looks like the creepiest part of the Colosseum seem interesting.

Trevi Fountain

Typically, the Trevi Fountain is more for spending Valentine's Day in Rome, not a day with your whole family. It's a romantic spot that never fails to get any couple in the mood, thanks in large part to the various movies that have featured the iconic fountain in the most romantic scenes. In truth, however, the Trevi Fountain draws in people of all ages, even younger ones. It's constantly part of itineraries of school trips, kids play around here, and more. The little ones will even love throwing coins at the fountain.

Explora

Il Museo dei Bambini di Roma, better known as “Explora,” is perhaps the best place to spend time with family in Rome. Located on Via Flaminia, its name translates to the “Children Museum of Rome” and stays true to it too. The place is an interactive playground of a gallery where little ones can learn and play at the same time. They can pretend to work in jobs people do today and back then. They can run around in between colorful features. Finally, there's also an in-house cafe where the whole family can enjoy a good meal together.

Museum of Illusions

While Rome's Museum of Illusions (Museo delle Illusioni Roma) on Via Merulana isn't specifically targeted at families and kids, they'll still love the place. Just as its name says, the museum is made up of huge illusions that'll take you on a tailspin. The little ones will love how weird the place looks. They'll endlessly giggle at looking like they're walking sideways or upside-down. They'll ask to take their picture taken with a chair that'll make them look as small as mice. Their eyes will dazzle when they go through the labyrinths filled with video illusions.

Centrale Montemartini

When you move to Rome, you'll fill your days going to museums on end. The Italian capital has scores of them, each bigger than the next. One of the more unique is Centrale Montemartini, an old electric pant turned into a sculpture museum. The contrast between the ancient artworks and the relatively modern industrial setting makes for a stunning sight. It also helps you better appreciate the artistry of these sculptures, many of which are so intricate that you almost can't believe they were crafted by human hands. And though these are priceless pieces, Centrale Montemartini is ironically one of the more family-friendly museums in Rome.

Luneur Park

A theme park never fails to give the whole family a fun time. Here in Rome, Luneur Park is one of the best. Dating as far back as 1953, it has long entertained the young and old alike. The place has everything you'd expect in a theme park: exciting rides, fun games, colorful displays, and more. It's the perfect spot for any family in Rome to have as much fun as possible, as well as a nice bonding activity. Any spent in Luneur Park will make for a memorable day for the entire family.

Hydromania

Rome is the capital city of Italy, one of the warmest countries in the world. Though the place itself experiences all four seasons, it's still known as a bright and sunny destination. It's especially sunny in summer, so much so that you might need some cooling off. Thus, you'll want to take your whole family to Hydromania, Rome's premier water park. Big slides, swirling attractions, and huge pools await the young and old alike. Everyone can swim, snorkel, splash around, and more. It's a great place for everyone to play and spend quality time together.
