February in
Paris often means the peak of winter. The month usually has the coldest day of the year. The streets are covered in snow, you're all bundled up in thick knitwear, and at times, even sitting by the fireplace isn't enough. Does this mean you have next month in Paris? Not in February 2024! The upcoming month is chock full of events, each more exciting than the next. Naturally, the most popular is Valentine's Day. What better place to celebrate the most romantic holiday than in the most romantic city? There's also the sweet La Chandeleur (Crêpe Day), the “One Thousand and One Orchids” Show at Jardin des Plantes, and Chinese New Year too!
La Chandeleur (February 2)
You can tell how much the French love their pastries with their
national holidays. Every February, for example, they celebrate “
La Chandeleur” or Crêpe Day. Much like
Galette des Rois, the holiday has a religious aspect to it. February 2 makes the 40th day since Christmas, the Birth of Christ. It's said that this was the day that Mary and Joseph presented the Baby Jesus in the temple. To celebrate it, the French decided that they'd eat as many crêpes on this day as they could. They're pretty superstitious about it too, regarding crêpe on February 2 as a sign of good luck.

The very immersive Atelier des Lumieres is one of the
more fascinating museums in Paris. February is oftentimes the peak of
winter in Paris. At times, the city is covered in snow and the temperature is at an all-time low. It's during this time of the year that you just yearn for spring and hope it arrives earlier. If this is what you're feeling, you might want to go to Jardin des Plantes and check out their annual “One Thousand and One Orchids” show. Chinese New Year (February 10)
Who says the holiday festivities have to stop after New Year's? Let's not forget that there are still more holidays to come. In February alone, there are two. The earlier one is
Chinese New Year, which is as lively as ever in Paris. In various arrondissements throughout Paris, people are celebrating the Lunar New Year. There are dragon and lion dances, beating drums, a feast of Chinese cuisine, and more. It's among the most colorful holidays in Paris, even though the entire city doesn't celebrate it as a whole. But in the places that do celebrate it, it's always a huge party!

Carnaval de Paris (February 11)
Truth be told, Carnaval de Paris is small compared to the more
famous carnivals in the world. Even Mardi Gras in New Orleans, which is practically the same event, is a lot bigger and more popular. Does this mean that the French capital's own Mardi Gras isn't worth your while? Of course, not! Carnaval de Paris is just as fabulous. People are out there dressed in extravagant costumes, dancing around, playing music, and having the time of their lives. You can join the festivities too next month. The event will take place in the
20th arrondissement on February 11, 2024.
