Vienna's true beauty goes beyond the grand halls and opulent palaces. The Austrian capital is indeed known for its gilded grandeur, but its natural beauty deserves some attention too. Go out on a picnic in Vienna and you'll instantly see why. Some of the city's best picnic spots are also its most stunning green spaces. There's Steinhofgründe in the 14th district, the Roter Berg in the 13th district, Augerten in the 2nd district, and the famous Stadtpark, to name a few. You'll have an amazing time in any of these wonderful places.
Augarten
Augarten's central location is one of the reasons why it's a great spot for a picnic in Vienna. The beautiful green space is located in the Leopoldstadt, one of the popular
neighborhoods in Vienna. The park owes its own fame to Palais Augarten, a 17-century palace that is as stately as the most famous royal residences in the world. The surrounding estate, on the other hand, is where you'll want to have your picnic. Whether on grassy fields with a nice blanket or the nearby benches for better convenience, there's no doubt you'll enjoy your time here!

Burggarten
Another former royal residence-turned-city park is Burggarten. Palaces, stately statues, and a grand greenhouse make up this green space. It's become a popular tourist spot in the city, perfect for sightseeing and, of course, having a lovely picnic in Vienna. Imagine going on a picnic with the opulent Hofburg Palace looking over you! Or even the Palmenhaus Schönbrunn! It's as if you're relaxing amidst a fairytale. Its central location is another ace. You can easily get food and drinks nearby, allowing for a grand feast for your picnic. What more could you ask for?

Löwygrube Park
If you want to go on a picnic with your pet, Löwygrube Park is the place for you! It's one of the very few city parks in Vienna where your furry friends are allowed. And it's no surprise considering that this green space is a vast field. Unlike the picnic spots mentioned so far, there are no palaces, statues, and fountains around. Instead, there's a grass field with lush trees and an amazing view of the Austrian capital. It's a great place for hanging out, playing sports, and running around with your pets. Doesn't that sound lovely?

Roter Berg
Much like Löwygrube Park, Roter Berg is another vast grassy field overlooking the rest of the city. The name itself means “Red Mountain” in German but the place itself is more of a hill. Standing 262 meters high near the outskirts of the city, the hilltop park has some of the best views of Vienna. It's also among the most lush out of parks in Vienna. What it may lack in palaces and statues, it more than makes up for in greenery. The trees are tall and leafy while the grass is always so soft and healthy.

Pötzleinsdorfer Schlosspark
If you think that Pötzleinsdorfer Schlosspark looks like the
English countryside, you're right on the money! The fomer private gardens of the Pötzleinsdorf estate was crafted in the 18th-century English style. Hence, the romance and rural charms of the place are abundant. The palace itself is beautiful, but the estate gardens are the definition of idyllic. The place looks straight out of a fairytale, not because of the Medieval look, but because the park is brimming with classic romance and old-world appeal. Hence, this is the perfect place for a romantic picnic with your special someone.

Stadtpark
If you can only
spend a day in Vienna, it's likely that the only park you'd get to see is Stadtpark. Located in the first district's Innere Stadt neighborhood, Stadtpark is arguably the main park of Vienna. It's possibly the most famous green space in the city, beloved for its picturesque landscape gardens, stunning statues, and the grand Kursalon Hübner music hall. But when it comes to going on a picnic in Vienna, the serene gardens are more than enough. Even when it gets crowded at times, the park is big enough that you can still snag a spot that's all your own.

Steinhofgründe
Steinhofgründe is famous for its wilderness-like meadows. You'd almost forget that the park is still part of the bustling city. The place looks straight out of the Austrian countryside, so much so that it will barely surprise you if you see wild animals roaming around. Don't worry! Steinhofgründe is still a safe park where you can have a picnic in peace. The only building around is Otto Wagner's Church in the Art Nouveau style. Apart from that, the park is all grassy meadows. Here, you can eat, sleep, and play to your heart's content!

Prater Park
Yes, Prater Park is a theme park. It has all the attractions you'd expect in such a place: roller coasters, a Ferris Wheel, all sorts of games, and more. Though it's great for a family day in Vienna, it's not exactly suitable spot for a picnic, is it? Well, why not? There are still green parts of the park where you can lay out a blanket, put out some food, and have a good time. Or if you want, you can buy snacks from the stalls and have your picnic by the available benches.
