Copenhagen's beauty knows no bounds. From the scenic canals and the iconic harbor houses to the forts and castles that reveal its centuries-old history, the Danish capital continues to inspire and awe locals and tourists alike. Even something as simple as a picnic can feel extraordinary in many of the city's best parks. From the countryside-like Amager Fælled to the regal Frederiksberg Gardens, not to mention the much-beloved Kongens Have and Det Kongelige Biblioteks, there are many places to have a worthwhile picnic in Copenhagen. When it's sunny outside and you want to hang out with loved ones, why not go on a picnic?
Amager Fælled
A truly lovely picnic includes a lot of peace. Having it in a city park is good and all, but you'd be surrounded by other people. If you can enjoy your picnic in Copenhagen alone, with just your family and friends, that'd be heaven, right? So you'll have an even better time if you venture off into Amager Fælled instead. This is a nature reserve in Amager, a small island within the Danish capital. A fair distance away from the
central neighborhoods of Copenhagen, this vast field of trees and wildflowers is perfect for a peaceful picnic.

Botanisk Have
The University of Copenhagen houses Botanisk Have (Botanical Gardens), the country's largest collection of plants. No one would've ever thought that one of
Copenhagen's finest international schools would have such a feature, but that's what makes the garden even more fascinating. With its grand greenhouses, each a treasure trove of botanical bliss, it's no wonder both locals and tourists alike visit the place. Even if you'll only have a simple picnic, this place is still perfect. The open grounds are free to the public and make for just as enchanting a picnic spot as any other.

Det Kongelige Biblioteks
Copenhagen is where
Hans Christian Anderson once lived. He was the famous author who wrote many of today's most beloved fairy tales. His renowned legacy has made the Danish capital itself into a fairytale-like destination, and it helps the city's many historic sites add to that appeal. One of them is Det Kongelige Biblioteks or the Royal Library. It's a castle-like manor that houses one of Scandinavia's biggest collections of books, references, and more. At the same time, its storybook-esque estate includes a lovely garden where you can enjoy a sunny picnic in Copenhagen. Have it by the fountain surrounded by lush lawns and colorful blossoms!

Dyrehaven
Dyrehaven, or “The Deer Park,” is another of Copenhagen's cinematic hotspots. This nature reserve is a vast field where wild deer roam around. There's a grand manor right smack in the middle, adding a regal touch that looks and feels straight out of a
Jane Austen novel. The entire park also has a tinge of the
English countryside itself, especially with its grand estate-like ambiance. Here, you and your loved ones can have the time of your life with a nice picnic. Let the deer in on the fun too as they run and jump their way to your hearts.

Frederiksberg Gardens
Let's go back to a more regal setting for this next one. The Frederiksberg Gardens is an enchanting 64-hectare green space located on the western edge of Inner Copenhagen. The garden was finished during King Frederik IV's reign, hence its name. It's one of the most romantic spots in Copenhagen, suitable for a picnic date for two. Even when the park is so big that it draws in hundreds, if not thousands of visitors each day, its classic elegance and Baroque appeal scream novel-like romance. Grab a spot by the pond and enjoy your picnic there. It'll be a date you won't soon forget!

Kongens Have
Though a lot smaller than the Frederiksberg Gardens, the equally regal Kongens Have (The King's Garden) is another great spot for a picnic in Copenhagen. Located within the estate of the Rosenberg Castle, it's one of the oldest parks in all of Copenhagen. Its extensive history alone makes it worth your while, even more so for when you're simply in need of a nice picnic spot. Here, lay down a blanket, put out an incredible feast, and eat and relax in peace. Despite how crowded it can get at times, a sense of serenity always lingers within these royal gardens.

Landbohøjskolens Have
Landbohøjskolens Have is technically a university park but it doesn't look and feel like it. University students and other young folks would frequent this beautiful garden, but it doesn't get so busy and rowdy that you couldn't enjoy a lovely picnic here. The reason why Landbohøjskolens Have doesn't look and feel like a university park is its beautiful collection of exotic flowers and greenery. The place looks more like a royal or botanical garden, not a park where the youth hang out. Nevertheless, the place doesn't lose its elegance even when it's filled with students.

Ørstedsparken
Although it covers only 6.5 hectares, Ørstedsparken looks and feels like a huge park. Perhaps it’s because it's rarely crowded here. Though a lot of locals who live or have just
moved to Copenhagen know about it, many of them prefer to hang out in other green spaces in the city. Thus, Ørstedsparken is a more peaceful park that looks massive because there aren't a lot of people to make it seem smaller. If you have your picnic here, you can enjoy the vast expanse of greenery and serenity. One of the best spots is by the lake, offering a soothing scenery amid the busy capital city.
