It's even safe to say that Istituto Marangoni is the most prestigious fashion school in Italy, especially since it's one of the first higher educational institutions of its kind. Here, you can learn countless things about fashion, both the business and the craft.

History of Istituto Marangoni

Since it's the original school, Milan's Istituto Marangoni has a more extensive history compared to its other campuses around the world. Tailor Giulio Marangoni founded the school in 1935, becoming one of the first professional art schools in the city. Upon its inception, the school only taught pattern-making and sewing, training students to become tailors and seamstresses. It was only in the 1970s that the institute began teaching fashion design and product development. Around the 1980s, the school then included marketing and other business-related courses. Hence, Istituto Marangoni has become one of the best fashion schools in Milan for aspiring designers, stylists, fashion journalists, and businessmen, among many others.

What Does Istituto Marangoni Look Like?

Istituto Marangoni has two separate campuses in different neighborhoods in Milan. The design school is in Via Cerva, while the business-centric classes are held on the campus by Via Pietro Verri. The former is expectedly bigger compared to the latter. The design school is housed in a fairly big minimalist building made up of spacious studios, roomy ateliers, and standard classrooms, among many others. The campus on Via Pietro Verri is no small spot either. Housed in a narrower, modernized Roman-style building, it still has ample space for students to try their hand at design, hold exhibitions, host student fashion shows, and more.

The Istituto Marangoni Student Body

With all its prestige as one of the best fashion schools in the world, Milan's Istituto Marangoni surprisingly has a big student body. The school welcomes about 1,000 students per year across the design school and the fashion institute. This is a fairly large number of enrollees considering that the total number of Istituto Marangoni students around the world totals about 5,000. It also helps that the school's acceptance rate is a good 80%, making Istituto Marangoni one of the easier fashion schools to get into.

Istituto Marangoni's Best Programs and Courses

Istituto Marangoni offers a diverse array of educational programs related to fashion. Arguably its best is its fashion design courses, from the standard undergraduate and postgraduate degrees to even its online short courses. The school's business-related programs, namely Luxury Management, are nothing to scoff at either. The classes are taught by some of the most prominent professionals working in Milan's famous fashion scene today. The same goes for Fashion Communications & Digital Media. If you want a career in fashion journalism, perhaps even a career in Italy's most influential glossies, this is the course you'll want to take.

Istituto Marangoni’s Prerequisites

Perhaps what makes Istituto Marangoni one of the easier European fashion schools to get into is that its prerequisites aren't as high as those of other similar institutions. For its Bachelor of Arts degrees, you'll only need a high school diploma. The undergraduate semester courses, on the other hand, only require an undergraduate degree in any related field. While its master's degree programs require a Bachelor's degree, a well-written CV, and having work experience will help too. As for the school's general requirements, they include a filled-up application form, passport-size photos, 2 reference letters, a signed personal statement, and either a national ID (for EU students) or a copy of your student visa (for non-EU students).

How Much Does It Cost to Study in Istituto Marangoni?

Generally speaking, studying in Istituto Marangoni costs about a minimum of €17,800.00 to a maximum of €23,000.00 per year. How much you'll end up having to pay will depend on your course. Naturally. postgraduate programs will cost considerably more compared to undergraduate programs, even more so with short-term courses. Moreover, your overall costs will be higher if you're coming from a non-EU country. There's still the student visa fee you have to pay, accommodation costs, and more. It's a good thing then that it's fairly easy to get financial aid from Istituto Marangoni, especially since the school has come to operate specifically to welcome international students.

Where is Istituto Marangoni in The City?

As already mentioned, Istituto Marangoni has two campuses in Milan. The design school is on Via Cerva, a relatively quiet corner of the Italian fashion capital. Though it's not far from the city center, the area remains a fairly peaceful corner compared to the city's livelier districts. The fashion institute, on the other hand, is on Via Pietro Verri, right at the heart of Milan. Surrounded by fashionable department stores, designer boutiques, and more, the place is in the middle of the city's iconic fashion scene. If you're a fashion student, you couldn't have asked for a better place to study and even rent a luxury apartment in Milan.

Istituto Marangoni's Famous Graduates

As one of the oldest fashion schools in Milan, it makes sense that Istituto Marangoni has produced countless notable professionals over the years. Arguably its most famous is Franco Moschino, whose namesake label, Moschino, has become one of the biggest Italian designer brands in the world. Alessandra Facchinetti, an underrated designer who has worked in big fashion houses like Gucci, Valentino, and Tod's, also graduated here. And though he's not an official graduate considering he didn't finish his education here, Domenico Dolce of Dolce & Gabbana also studied in Istituto Marangoni for a bit.
