EsDI prides itself as a “Talent Factory” in the world of art and design. It draws in young creatives and hones them to be the best in their respective industries. This is especially true about its fashion students. EsDI serves as one of the best fashion schools in Barcelona, specifically for those who want to pursue design. Here, they'll train you to be the best fashion designer you can be, so much so that you won't find it difficult to open your own brand once you graduate. Or perhaps you can even helm a major fashion house too!

History of The EsDI
Fashion aspirants have the Fundació del Disseny Tèxtil (FUNDIT) to thank for establishing EsDI. They founded the school in 1989 as an initiative by FUNDIT to bolster the Catalan fabric industry. With the help of the Ministry of Industry and Generalitat de Catalunya, the higher educational institution was established and it didn't take long for it to become a
prominent fashion school in Barcelona. Though its initial purpose was to research and improve textile studies, the artistry of the school eventually pushed design and image-making courses to the forefront.
What Does EsDI Look Like?
EsDI is housed in a series of warehouses on Carrer de la Diputació that once housed the Sabadell Manufacturers Guild's wool storage spaces. It took years of renovation to transform them into the artistic campus it is today. From what used to be piles and piles of wool and other textiles, the buildings now housed classrooms, studios, ateliers, and the like. It still has the usual facilities you'd see in other
fashion schools around the world, but the campus is unique for its focus on ample spaces for fashion design and other art disciplines.

The EsDI Student Body
Even with a big campus and its level of prestige, EsDI doesn't have a big student body. The school only welcomes about 550 enrollees per year, including returning students who have yet to graduate. This proves two things about the school. Firstly, ESDI is underrated compared to other, more
prominent fashion schools in Europe. It's not surprising that most students would want to learn in cities like Paris or Milan instead. Secondly, this also proves that the institution's standards for its applicants are high. It's not that easy to get into EsDI.
EsDI's Best Programs and Courses
EsDI offers a Bachelor's Degree in Fashion Design that includes both mandatory subjects in higher education and basic training in the craft. It's one of the best programs for beginners since it has the basics down pat. Even with the latter, the course also has theory and history subjects that will help in developing the students' creativity and give them a better understanding of the industry. And in the later years of the program, EsDI will also help the students get internships in various fashion companies that operate in
Barcelona and beyond.

EsDI’s Prerequisites
EsDI’s prerequisites aren't too different from those of other art and fashion schools. To apply for the school's Bachelor's Degree in Fashion Design, you need to submit your secondary educational diploma (or anything equivalent from your home country) and present a well-curated portfolio. Naturally, international applicants will need to apply for a student visa too. The school even insists that you also show them the documents you need for the visa application process. And uniquely, EsDI requires all incoming students to have adequate medical insurance upon enrolling for the new school year.
How Much Does It Cost to Study in EsDI?
EsDI is unsurprisingly one of the more affordable fashion schools out there. Though it's not
cheap by any means. Compared to other prominent higher educational institutions of its kind, which tend to cost tens to nearly hundreds of Euros per year, EsDI only costs about €9,670.00 per year. But that's just the tuition fee. There are also other costs you need to pay when you study here. These include admission fees, housing fees, costs for your materials, and of course, the
living costs in Barcelona too, which aren't high. Overall, expect to spend a lot of money when you study fashion at EsDI
Where is EsDI in Barcelona?
As already mentioned, EsDI is located on Carrer de la Diputació, right by the edge of the Eixample district and not too far from the city's Gothic Quarter. Since these are two of the most popular
central neighborhoods in Barcelona, it's a fairly good location for students. Eixample is known for its lively hustle and bustle while the Gothic Quarter's historic artistry and intellectual origins give it an almost scholastic appeal. These are also some of the best areas to
rent a luxury apartment in Barcelona. The real estate in both districts is some of the best in the entire city.

Even though it's an art school, ESDI remains one of the finest fashion schools in Barcelona. Its fashion program teaches everything you need to succeed in a design career in the industry, from the basics to specialized skills and beyond.
