Escuela de Artes y Técnicas de Moda, or “EATM,” is a great fashion school in Barcelona. It serves as both a higher educational institution and a vocational school for anyone who wants to pursue a career in fashion. At first glance, it seems that EATM is only devoted to fashion design, as many fashion schools in Barcelona are. And while design is a popular program here, the school offers other courses that delve deeper into various fields in the industry. Here, you can learn about fashion merchandising, marketing, styling, fashion communication, and more.

History of EATM
A group of textile and clothing manufacturers founded Escuela de Artes y Técnicas de Moda in 1968, a time when the fashion industry was further expanding beyond haute couture. The group was convinced that training future fashion professionals would prove integral, both for the industry at large and for their respective businesses too. In 2000, the school merged with another of
Barcelona's best fashion schools, Escola Superior de Disseny (ESDi), and became an affiliate school of Ramon Llull University. This further legitimized EATM as an official higher educational institution for the fashion industry.
What Does EATM Look Like?
Located on Carrer de la Diputació in the Eixample
neighborhood of Barcelona, EATM shares the same campus as ESDi. Since it serves as an institution for higher education, it doesn't necessarily need its own campus. As such, EATM shared the same facilities with ESDi too, including classrooms, studios, ateliers, textile labs, knitting labs, and more. There are also common areas that are often used for exhibitions, student fashion shows, and more. With all this, the students of EATM can live out a typical university experience even when it's a specialty school.

EATM's Best Programs and Courses
EATM is the ultimate school for higher education in fashion. Apart from its summer programs, it mostly offers Master's Degree courses. Perhaps its most popular is the Master's Degree in Styling, Image, and Fashion Communication, training students for a career in fashion journalism, styling, and the like. There's also the Master's Degree in Fashion Management, Marketing, and Sustainability. It's a meticulous program that leans more on the industry's business side without sacrificing the importance of fashion's artistry. Overall, these are courses that venture beyond the usual field of fashion design that most of
the world's best fashion schools focus on.
EATM’s Prerequisites
As with any other higher educational institution, EATM imposes a set of prerequisites you need to submit and accomplish upon applying to the school. They include at least a Bachelor's Degree in any related field, a well-curated portfolio, and a student visa for those coming from non-EU countries. It's also possible that they'll conduct an entrance interview, mostly through video chat, to get to know you better. It's only after this that they will let you know if you got in or not.

How Much Does It Cost to Study in EATM?
Though EATM is a fairly prominent higher educational institution, not to mention mostly offers Master's Degree programs, it's surprisingly more affordable compared to other
European fashion schools. This isn't to say it's cheap though—the school still costs around €9,670.00 per year. There are also other costs like administrative/admission fees, housing fees, costs for your materials, and of course, the
living costs in Barcelona. Nevertheless, this tuition fee is still comparatively lower compared to other schools that cost tens and even hundreds of Euros per school year.
Where is EATM in Barcelona?
As already mentioned, EATM is on Carrer de la Diputació in the Eixample district, one of the central neighborhoods of
Barcelona. It's perhaps the most famous area in the Catalan capital too, thanks to the various iconic landmarks located here. There's Plaça de Catalunya, for example, arguably the city's main public square. You'll also find Master architect Antoni Gaudí's beloved architectural marvels here, including the breathtaking Sagrada Familía and the famous Casa Milà, among many others. Perhaps the best part is Eixample has lots of great real estate too. Here, you can easily
rent a luxury apartment in Barcelona.
EATM’s Famous Graduates
Much like other prominent fashion schools, EATM has produced many notable designers and other fashion professionals. Arguably the most famous is Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada, an iconic designer known for her vibrant, at times even avant-garde designs. There's also Ze García, whose eponymous brand evokes modern sensuality and is popular among women of all ages. Miriam Ponsa graduated from EATM too, a Barcelona-based designer who's made Mediterranean sophistication her signature. All of these famous figures prove that EATM solidified an indelible legacy within the Spanish fashion industry and beyond.
