This independently-run international school doesn't just teach the American curriculum to students in the French capital, but it also provides the perfect place for students to embrace diversity and cultivate a global understanding. In the safety of its well-guarded campus in the Saint-Cloud suburb of Paris, kids from pre-kindergarten to Grade 12 can learn about the world and beyond. Not to mention make friends, discover different cultures, and explore new walks of life.

History of The American School of Paris

Although the American School of Paris regards 1946 as its official founding, the school traces its origins to as early as 1912. It was in 1912 that Dr. Prynce Hopkinds built a private school called “Boyland,” a private school for underprivileged boys in Paris. It's through this institution that Paul G. De Rosay eventually established the American School of Paris in October of 1946, becoming the first American-run educational institution in the French capital. By 1947, the school expands to welcome a bigger student body and make a name for itself within the city and beyond.

What is The American School of Paris' Campus Like?

Located on Rue Pasteur in Saint-Cloud, one of the central western Paris Suburbs, the American School of Paris boasts a fairly expansive campus. Unlike the schools in the central neighborhoods in Paris, which mostly comprise big buildings filled with standard classrooms, ASP's location within the city's outskirts allow it to have all sorts of impressive facilities. Most notably, the school has a massive outdoor area, big enough to include a football field, baseball field, and other sports venues. It's pretty reminiscent of the big schools in the US, which is no surprise considering that the school is likely built to bring that sort of school space to the French capital.

The American School of Paris Student Body

ASP is one of the biggest international schools in Paris, not just in its campus but by its student body too. The American School of Paris welcomes about 800 students per year across various academic levels. The school starts with nursery and goes up until grade 12, the last level of secondary school. Since ASP also primarily teaches in American English, international students also go here. The school's 800-person student body comprises various nationalities and ethnicities, not to mention a good percentage of local French youth too.

What is The American School of Paris' Curriculum?

True to its name, the American School of Paris follows an American curriculum, which maintains a nice balance between academic rigor and a staunch focus on the student's social and emotional development. While the educational institution prioritizes academic excellence, it doesn't overlook the students' skills in extracurricular activities, from arts to athletics. Overall, ASP focuses on the holistic growth of the students, providing a safe space for them to enhance their unique skills and to socialize within a diverse student body. And when they graduate, the students are given an American High School Diploma.

How Much Does It Cost to Study in The American School of Paris?

As one of the biggest and most prestigious international private schools in Paris, it’s no surprise that ASP costs a lot. Its tuition fees can almost rival those of less-prominent colleges or even popular art and fashion schools in Paris, and the latter tends to be pricey too. ASP's kindergarten tuition fees, for example, range from €21,270.00 to €28,650.00 per year. Primary school (kindergarten to grade 5), on the other hand, costs about €34,020.00 per year. From grade 6 to 8, which is the start of secondary school, the tuition fee gets higher—approx. €39,235 per year. And for senior high (grades 9 to 13), the costs are a maximum €39,910.00 per year.

Where is The American School of Paris in Paris?

As already mentioned, the American School of Paris is located in Saint-Cloud, a beautiful commune in the western suburbs of the French capital. Though it's part of the Paris Suburbs and a fair distance away from the central arrondissements, the place remains as urban in its development and as lively as the city's most popular neighborhoods. It's also a fairly affluent area, home to many high-to-middle-class families that can afford to take their kids to private schools like ASP. It helps that Saint-Cloud is a great place for families in general, thanks in large part to the fact that the district has many luxury homes in Paris.
