History of The University of London Institute in Paris

Despite how relatively unknown it is since most people only know of the real University of London in the British capital, its Institute of Paris is actually one of the oldest international schools in Paris. With the help of the then British ambassador, Lord Dufferin, an Englishwoman named Edith Williams established the school in 1894. Back then, the institute was known as the “Franco-British Guild,” aimed at teaching English to French students to qualify to teach theoretical studies in English. By 1909, the school expanded to include French classes, this time to teach the language to British nationals in the city. From then on, the institute grew to become the respected college it is today.

What is The University of London Institute in Paris Campus Like?

Located in a Haussmann building on Rue de Constantine in the 7th arrondissement, the University of London Institute in Paris is at the heart of the French capital. The fact that it's in the same district as the Eiffel Tower is enough of a reason for foreign nationals to want to study here. Fortunately, the campus itself is fairly big for a school in central Paris. While it may not be as expansive as other schools, especially those in the Paris Suburbs, it still has ample space for a prestigious college in the city.

The University of London Institute in Paris Student Body

Despite how respected and prestigious a higher educational institution it is, the University of London Institute of Paris has a fairly limited student body. It may change per year, but the school generally welcomes only about 180 to 200 enrollees per year. This includes both new applicants and returning students who have yet to graduate. To break down this small student body even further, there are about 160 to 180 undergraduate students and only 20 postgraduate students. As for the percentage of international students, this also changes from year to year.

The University of London Institute in Paris’s Best Programs and Courses

Perhaps the reason why the school usually has more undergraduate enrollees than postgraduate students is that the former has more programs. Here, young students can learn French Studies or International Politics. The former is even more divided into specific courses, including Bachelor's Degrees in French Business, French Politics, French History, and International Relations in French. And for the Master's Degree, the institute only offers one in Urban History & Culture. Unsurprisingly, these programs harken back to the reasons why the school was established in the first place—building global connections.

How Much Does It Cost to Study at The University of London Institute in Paris?

Much like its British counterpart, the real University of London, which is also among the top universities in London, the Institute of Paris only costs about £9,250 per year. When converted to Euros, this costs around €11,022.76 per year. While this is comparatively lower than the tuition fees in other universities and colleges in Paris, this is still pretty pricey in the grand scheme of things. Especially with the high living costs in Paris. Fortunately, enrollees can seek financial aid if they can meet the school's qualifications for such.

Where is The University of London Institute in Paris?

As already mentioned, the University of London Institute of Paris is located on Rue de Constantine in the 7th arrondissement. As the home of the Eiffel Tower, this is arguably the most famous neighborhood in Paris. Millions of tourists go here every year, visiting what is perhaps the most iconic landmark in all of Europe. So does this mean the area isn't good for living in Paris? Not necessarily. The Eiffel Tower is only in one part of the district. As a whole, the 7th arrondissement is a fairly affluent area with many residential spots. Here, you'll also find some of the best luxury apartments in Paris.
