There's no doubt that the Paris 2024 Olympics is all that people will be focused on, especially in
Paris. The global sports event has truly taken over the French capital, from turning its iconic landmarks to sports venues to even going other parts of the country too. It seems that the Olympics is the only event worth anticipating this August 2024, right? Well, not exactly. Paris still has a lot in store next month. Sure, there's the end of the Olympics, but there's also the Silhouette Short Film Festival, Fête de l'Assomption, and Rock en Seine 2024, to name a few.
Paris 2024 Olympics (Ends on August 11)
There's no doubt that the
Paris 2024 Olympics is what everyone will be talking about by August 2024. By this time, the Summer Games will be in full swing, culminating at the end of the event, which will be on August 11, 2024. The city plans to hold the event in various areas, including the
most famous landmarks in Paris. From the Eiffel Tower and the Seine River to the Grand Palais and Place de la Concorde, the Olympics will be virtually inescapable by the start of August 2024.
Paris 2024 Olympics Closing Ceremony (August 11)
Perhaps the most highly anticipated event in Paris this year is the Closing Ceremony for the 2024 Summer Olympics. Unlike the
Paris 2024 Olympics Opening Ceremony, which is bound to be one of the most historic, this event is slated to be more traditional but still grandiose. The Opening Ceremony will take place on the Seine River, the first time it will ever take place outside of the usual stadium setting. The Closing Ceremony, on the other hand, will take place in Stade de France on August 11, 2024. Expect big stars and big performances!
Fête de l'Assomption (August 15)
Once the hoopla surrounding the Paris Olympics dies down after August 11th, the city will still have many of its usual annual events. One of which is Fête de l'Assomption (The Feast of The Assumption) on August 15. One of the widely-celebrated religious
French holidays, it makes the day when the Blessed Virgin Mary ascended to heaven, body & soul. Since France, specifically Paris, remains largely Roman Catholic, it's no surprise that such a holiday is big in the city. The big tradition here is when devout Catholics parade a statue of Mother Mary (usually carrying the Baby Jesus) through various churches in Paris.
Rock en Seine (August 21 to 25)
Paris has a whole slew of annual music events this August 2024 which are surprisingly unaffected by the Paris 2024 Olympics. It helps that they mostly start one to two weeks after the end of the global sports event. The first is Rock en Seine, which will be from August 21 to 25, 2024. True to its name, this is a rock music festival on Parc de Saint-Cloud in the
Paris Suburbs. It will be a weekend of non-stop music, with performances by artists like The Offsprings, Lana Del Rey, Maneskin, and more.
Jazz à la Villette (Begins on August 29)
Beginning on August 29, 2024, Paris will host its annual Jazz à la Villette, one of the biggest music festivals in the city. True to its name, the event will host a flurry of jazz performances in and around Parc de la Villette in the
19th arrondissement. From home-grown musicians to international artists, the event never fails to draw the genre's best players. They take to the stage in places like Philharmonie de Paris, Grande Halle de La Villette, and Cité de la Musique and perform for all the world to see (and hear).
Silhouette Short Film Festival (Begins on August 30)
In another park in the 19th arrondissement, Parc de la Butte du Chapeau Rouge, Paris will host its annual Silhouette Short Film Festival. The nine-day event will begin on August 30, 2024, and is one of the biggest outdoor cinema events in the world. Far from the prestige of the admittedly more famous Cannes Film Festival in Southern France, the Silhouette Short Film Festival is all about emerging filmmakers introducing themselves to the world. The festival will play short films of various genres, from drama to animation and everything in between.
From the Paris 2024 Olympics to a flurry of music festivals, the French capital has a lot in store this August 2024. Though the city will be busy with the global sports event, there are still plenty of events you can look forward to.
