History of Polytechnic Institute of Paris

The Polytechnic Institute of Paris was first created as a response to the atomic activity that happened in World War II. That historic, year-long conflict resulted in a rapid growth of nuclear physics and chemistry, which the world, especially Europe, then required more experts after the war. As such, most of the higher educational institutions at the time, including the University of Paris and the Collège de France, needed space around the Orsay area in the southern Paris Suburbs. With many other universities and colleges joining in the years that followed, it paved the way for these various schools to form the Polytechnic Institute of Paris.

What Does The Polytechnic Institute of Paris Look Like?

Much like what Paris needed post-World War II, the university's campus is an expansive collection of research facilities. Located on Route de Saclay in the Palaiseau commune just south of Paris, it's practically in a separate territory of its own. The university needs this big of a campus for its various projects and research, many of which are commissioned by various vital government and private entities. At the same time, it still has many standard school facilities students need to learn and grow. There are big classrooms, spacious common areas, huge libraries, and more.

The Polytechnic Institute of Paris Student Body

As one of the biggest international schools in Paris, the Polytechnic Institute of Paris naturally has a huge student body too. The school welcomes about 8,500 students per year, including both new enrollees and returning students. They're also comprised of about 6,050 undergraduates, 1,500 postgraduates, and over 950 doctoral students. Don't forget that it's a pretty diverse student body too. The university accepts applicants from over 60 different countries around the world, further proving that its prestige goes beyond Paris, beyond France, and even beyond Europe.

Polytechnic Institute of Paris's Best Programs and Courses

The Polytechnic Institute of Paris is best known for its science and engineering schools. Perhaps its most popular undergraduate program is its Bachelor’s Degree in Science, specifically for students with a passion for scientific studies and mathematics. It's among the biggest courses within the school's many Bachelor's Degree programs. There's also the Masters of Science and Technology, which is the university's top postgraduate degree. This further emphasizes that the Polytechnic Institute of Paris is truly devoted to teaching and training the world's next group of scientists and scholars.

Polytechnic Institute of Pariss Prerequisites

Even with how prestigious the Polytechnic Institute of Paris is, its prerequisites remain standard for any higher educational institution. Suppose you want to apply for any of its undergraduate programs. In that case, you'll need at least a high school diploma (or anything equivalent in your country's educational system), high grades, and of course, a student visa that will allow you to stay and study in France. If you're applying for any of its postgraduate programs, you'll instead need at least a Bachelor's Degree in any related field to be considered.

How Much Does It Cost to Study at The Polytechnic Institute of Paris?

While they're not the highest among the city's many universities, the Polytechnic Institute of Paris's tuition fees are still pretty pricey. Most importantly, the costs for international students are comparatively higher than those for EU students. For example, for the Bachelor of Science program, EU students will only have to pay a tuition of €15,400.00 per year. But non-EU students? Their tuition is €18,800.00 per year. The difference may not be a lot, but if you include the generally high living costs in Paris to the mix, it's still pretty big.

Where is The Polytechnic Institute of Paris in Paris?

As already mentioned, the Polytechnic Institute of Paris is located in the Palaiseau commune in the southern suburbs of Paris. Though a fair distance away from the central neighborhoods in Paris, it's still a lively and urban town on its own. Apart from the various universities located here, Palaiseau has everything you need to live a comfortable life. Combined with its largely rural surroundings, the area gives you the best of both worlds—a bustling commune with a countryside appeal. You don't even have to worry about real estate too. Palaiseau has some of the best luxury homes in Paris, not to mention more affordable as well.
