History of Paris-East Créteil University
Though the school now known as Paris-East Créteil University (UPEC) was officially created on March 21, 1970, it has technically been around for longer than that. In May of 1968, a series of protests, rallies, and demonstrations occurred in various
universities in Paris. This resulted in the then-University of Paris, the biggest higher educational institution in the country at the time, breaking down into thirteen separate schools. One was Val de Marne University, named after the French department Val-de-Marne, where the university is located.
What Does Paris-East Créteil University Look Like?
As already mentioned, UPEC is located in the Val-de-Marne department of the Île-de-France region. Specifically, it's in the Créteil
suburb of Paris, located just 11.7 kilometers (7.3 miles) from the city center. The university itself boasts a big campus of modern buildings, all housing spacious classrooms & countless school facilities. From the look alone, it's already a stark contrast to the centuries-old universities in central Paris, many of which are housed in grand, Neoclassical buildings. At the same time, the campus also has several outdoor areas, including gardens, courtyards, and esplanades where students can still study under the sun.

The Paris-East Créteil University Student Body
By its expansive campus alone, you can already tell that UPEC has a lot of students. How many, exactly? The school welcomes about 32,000 enrollees per year, made up of both new applicants and returning students. To break that down even further, this student body consists of around 18,000 undergraduate students and over 12,000 postgraduate scholars. Though the former is still bigger than the latter, the disparity is among the smallest in Paris. Most of the other universities and
international schools in Paris usually have considerably more undergraduates than postgraduates.
Paris-East Créteil University's Best Programs and Courses
UPEC is best known as one of the biggest multidisciplinary universities in Paris, possibly even in the entire Île-de-France region. So it doesn't exactly have a specific specialty, at least compared to the city's other equally prominent higher educational institutions. UPEC boasts a diverse range of academic programs for anyone interested in
moving to Paris to study. In its undergraduate courses alone, it offers Bachelor's Degrees in International Business, Business Administration & Trade, and Mathematics, among many others.
