History of Nanterre University

May of 1968, an infamous and historic month-long series of civil unrest, was a tumultuous event that resulted in breaking down the former and bigger University of Paris. This led to the opening and establishment of new higher educational institutions in and near the city in 1970, including Nanterre University. In truth, the construction of Nanterre University was already in full swing in the early 1960s. But the site became the center of May 1968, hence it was named “Nanterre,” which is a reference to communism. Fortunately, things have been smooth sailing since then.

What Does Nanterre University Look Like?

Located in Nanterre, one of the western suburbs of Paris, the university enjoys an expansive campus in the La Défense area. While other schools in central Paris only have big buildings, university campuses like this one get to enjoy lots of space and plenty of outdoor areas. There are even courts and fields for sports, a testament to the school's dedication to students' extracurricular activities. The departments also have their own buildings, another thing that other international schools in Paris don't get to have. They house classrooms, lecture rooms, and other academic facilities.
