Established in 1573, Queen Elizabeth's School has a centuries-long legacy of academic excellence. Much like its iconic namesake, the school values the independence and leadership that Queen Elizabeth herself exemplified when she was on the throne. It's an all-boys academy that teaches young boys to become great men, the kind that can one day influence and lead the world to a better future. Every journey starts with a single step, after all, and any boy who steps into Queen Elizabeth's School has the promise of a great future.

History of Queen Elizabeth's School

To say that Queen Elizabeth's School is historic is an understatement. Queen Elizabeth I herself founded the school in 1573, under the petition of Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester. Local alderman Edward Underne also assisted in the construction of the school, eventually culminating in the Queen granting it a royal charter. Today, it's now one of the oldest schools in London, specifically among the many all-boys schools in the UK. It has also gone through various iterations over the years, but fortunately, it regained its original grammar school status in August of 1994.

What is Queen Elizabeth's School's Campus Like?

Queen Elizabeth's School has remained in its original home on Queen's Road in Barnet, a London Suburb in Greater London. Having been around since the 16th century, it's one of the oldest school campuses in the British capital, especially since many of its original buildings still stand too. The best example is the iconic Tudor Hali in Wood Street, Chipping Barnet. The school still uses it for lessons, activities, and more. The campus has also grown over the years, which has helped gain massive outdoor spaces too.

The Queen Elizabeth's School Student Body

As one of the most prestigious all-boys schools in London, Queen Elizabeth's School is fairly exclusive too. Hence, it only welcomes about 1,200 students per year. From ages 11 to 18, Queen Elizabeth's School limits its number of enrollees because of its high standards, but also because of its 1,000-student capacity. The students are also spread through the school's six houses—Broughton, Harrisons, Leicester, Pearce, Stapylton, and Underne. This allows the boys to join their own groups, socialize with others, and get a good sense of community while they're still pretty young.

What is Queen Elizabeth's School's Curriculum?

Queen Elizabeth's School follows the British National Curriculum, which focuses on important subjects like science, math, English, and physical education. It also heavily focuses on academics, emphasizing the student's scholastic skills. But this doesn't mean that the boys are not allowed to partake in extracurricular activities. British National Curriculum allows for enhancing one's specific skills and talents too. Students are more than welcome to commit to their own interests, which is another way for the school to help them grow and develop properly.

Where is Queen Elizabeth's School in London?

As already mentioned, Queen Elizabeth's School is located in Barnet, one of the more residential neighborhoods in London. Since it's located specifically in the Greater London area, it's a fair distance away from the city's busier and livelier districts. These are the northern outskirts of the British capital, more akin to the London Suburbs than the central neighborhoods. This is a great place for families to stay, as proven by the high-quality schools located here too. You also don't have to worry about real estate here. Barnet has a good number of exceptional luxury homes to rent in London that are also more affordable than in other areas.
