History of St. George's British International School

The St. George's British International School first opened in 1958, originally named “The English School” in Rome. The school is the brainchild of Rome's British community at the time. After the Second World War, the Italian capital saw a considerable surge of British expats working and relocating to the city. An association of British parents then saw the need for an English school where their kids could still get a British education while living in Rome. Hence, this school was founded, initially located on Via Salaria. It then relocated to Via Cassia in 1968, where it still stands today.

What is St. George's British International School's Campus Like?

St. George's British International School currently has two campuses throughout various neighborhoods in Rome. There's the original campus on Via Cassia, which is fairly near the outskirts of the city. This is the bigger campus that has a lot of outdoor areas. The second campus, on the other hand, is near the Vatican. It opened in 2002 and is right smack in the middle of the city. Though comparatively smaller than the original campus, it still has all the standard school facilities and more. Nevertheless, both campuses are just as effective in continuing the school's tradition of providing high-quality British education in Rome.

The St. George's British International School Student Body

Though it's an independent, not-of-profit private international school in Rome, St. George's British International School surprisingly has a fairly big student body. It's far from the biggest in the city, especially compared to public schools and local Italian institutions, but it's still a considerable size for an international school. St. George's British International School welcomes about 950 enrollees per year, composed of new applicants and returning students who have yet to graduate. A big percentage are foreign and international students, especially since it's an English-language institution in the Italian capital.

What is St. George's British International School's Curriculum?

St. George's British International School follows the National Curriculum for England, albeit an enhanced version. This comes as no surprise considering that Rome's British community founded the school and the institution itself is a founding member of the Council of British International Schools. The National Curriculum for England is best known for its sharp focus on academics. Hence, the school is more than able to teach young students. Perhaps even help them get into the top universities in London, the Ivy Schools in the US, and other prestigious schools around the world.

Where is St. George's British International School in Rome?

As already mentioned, St. George's British International School has two campuses in two different parts of the city. The first and original campus is in the Nomentana neighborhood, which is a fair distance away from the city center. Thanks to its location near the outskirts of the city, this campus has more outdoor areas and is considerably bigger. The second campus is near the Vatican, the city center. Both areas are known as some of the best parts of the city, complete with many great establishments nearby and some of the finest luxury homes to rent in Rome.
