ALX School Guide: Amstelland International School

September 19, 2024
2024-09-19
The Amstelland International School sounds like a prestigious international school in Amsterdam and it is. It boasts a beautiful campus, provides high-quality education, and is prominent enough that important families in the city send their kids here. These are all good, but they're just one side of the academic institution. The other side is that of an encouraging space for students to learn, explore, and discover. It's not just that the Amstelland International School teaches kids all the lessons they need to take on life later on, but it also encourages curiosity in young minds.

History of Amstelland International School

It's pretty impressive that the Amstelland International School is now one of Amsterdam's most prominent international schools. The school was only founded in 2019, making it one of the newer academic institutions in the city, be it local or international. Even today, it remains one of the smaller schools in the Dutch capital, only welcoming less than 100 students per year and a fairly compact campus. However, through sheer determination to provide high-quality education and complete guidance to its students, the Amstelland International School became a popular place for families.

What is Amstelland International School's Campus Like?

Though the Amstelland International School's campus is fairly small, it's nevertheless complete. It's located on Asserring in Amstelveen, a smaller municipality a bit beyond the city center. While it's not exactly in any of Amsterdam's central neighborhoods, it's still near enough that families in the city can easily send their kids to school here. The campus itself, on the other hand, has all the standard facilities you'll find in a proper school. There are big classrooms, playrooms for the younger students, a gymnasium, a library, a cafeteria, and even a few outdoor areas.

The Amstelland International School Student Body

The Amstelland International School isn't just a small school by campus, but also by student body. The school's student body changes from year to year, ranging from 80 to a little less than 150. This is considerably fewer compared to other international schools in Amsterdam, which accept as many as a thousand students per year. But while the school has a limited number of enrollees, they remain as diverse as ever. Amstelland International School's students come from over 30 different countries. Their percentage also changes year to year, but they still make up a considerable number of the entire student body.

What is Amstelland International School's Curriculum?

Amstelland International School has two specific ways of educating its students. The first is that it follows the International curriculum. While the school doesn't give the IB School Diploma, it follows the same curriculum that heavily focuses on academics and is concerned with helping students get high grades. The second is the Reggio Emilia approach, which spreads the responsibility of educating children to the entire community. This approach doesn't just let teachers teach students but lets parents and other adults have a hand in the young ones' education too.

How Much Does It Cost to Study at Amstelland International School?

Since Amstelland International School only spans from kindergarten to primary school, it's safe to say that it's far from the most expensive international school in Amsterdam. Its tuition fee is only €5,233.00 per year and stays the same throughout. Looking at the price alone, it's still fairly expensive for any household, especially when you consider the living costs in Amsterdam. At the same time, compared to how much it costs to enroll your kid in other academic institutions in the city, it's not too bad. On top of all that, there's also the one-time €200.00 enrollment fee and the required one-time €500.00 deposit.

Where is Amstelland International School in Amsterdam?

As already mentioned, the Amstelland International School is located in Amstelveen, a smaller town just outside the Dutch capital. Though it is a separate municipality altogether, it's still near the central districts and families in Amsterdam have no trouble sending their kids to school here. With that said, Amstelveen itself is a lovely town that's a lot safer and more peaceful than Amsterdam. A largely suburban area, it's arguably the perfect place for any family who want to live in Amsterdam but want to avoid the more bustling parts. Amstelveen also has some of the most affordable luxury homes in Amsterdam, which is always a plus for any household.
