History of Washington International School
American educator Dorothy Goodman founded the Washington International School (WIS) in
Washington D.C. in 1966. After the Second World War, the American capital saw many international schools established throughout the city, all built to specifically cater to various foreign communities who have settled down here. Washington International School is no different. Goodman envisioned the school to foster a close international community in the District of Columbia, educating children to become world citizens and instilling a deep sense of globalism. By 1969, the school started expanding, taking over the former Windell Phillips School and, in 1980, the former Tregaron Estate too.
