Jean Mooskin and Dick Roth taught and met the Hawthorne School, which eventually closed in 1982. In 1968, both professors partnered up and founded the Edmund Burke School together. They initially opened in a building along Wyoming Avenue in
Washington D.C. and started as a small school of only 17 students. By the early 1970s, the school had grown so much that it expanded to include new facilities, becoming the massive campus it is today on Connecticut Avenue. Moreover, the school is named after 18th century British parliamentarian and philosopher Edmund Burke, who famously wrote “
When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall one by one.”
