History of St. Albans School

Even in its early days, St. Albans School was already operating as an all-boys school in the District of Columbia. Harriet Lane Johnston, niece of President James Buchanan, bequeathed funding of about $300,000 (about $11,242,714.29 today) that helped establish the school in 1909. It was initially founded as a school for the Washington National Cathedral's boy choristers—and still does so today—but then emerged as a prestigious academic institution in its own right. A century after its founding, in 2009, the school then opened its new Upper School building, further expanding what's already a valued institution in the American capital's academic field.

What is St. Albans School's Campus Like?

St. Albans School's campus is located along Wisconsin Avenue in Georgetown, one of Washington D.C.'s central neighborhoods. Even though it's in the middle of the bustling American capital, the campus is fairly hidden from the rest of the city. Or, at the very least, it's tucked away from the more crowded parts of the city. The school has also uniquely retained its Gothic buildings, making it look and feel more like the centuries-old academy that it is today. Nevertheless, the school, as a whole, is a nice blend between modern and classic campuses.

The St. Albans School Student Body

Despite how big of a school it is, St. Albans School remains an exclusive all-boys academy, in the American capital, no less. Hence, it's no surprise that it doesn't have the biggest student body out there. Today, the school welcomes around 600 students per year. It's not small, but it's far from the largest in Washington D.C. alone. At the same time, this student body is composed of both new enrollees and returning students who have yet to graduate. A school steeped in tradition, many of them are also legacy enrollees, consisting of sons of families who have studied here for generations.

What is St. Albans School's Curriculum?

St. Albans School follows its own curriculum which is focused on a student's holistic growth. It's not enough that the boys excel in academics, but they're encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities too. The school still expects the best of its elite students, so much so that it also prepares them to go on to study in some of the most prestigious higher educational institutions in the world, but that's not the end-all and be-all. For St. Albans School, a truly great man has many talents with confidence in both their skills and intelligence.
