History of Maret School
While it's far from the most known schools in Washington D.C., the Maret School is undoubtedly one of the oldest. French sisters Marthe, Louise, and Jeanne Maret left their small French village of Marignan to teach in various parts of the world. Louise taught in Russia, Jeanne taught in the Philippines, and Marthe taught in the US. In 1911, Louise and Jeanne joined Marthe to teach in
Washington D.C. and eventually set up their own academic institution, the Maret French School. It became one of the first international schools in Washington D.C., the only French school at the time, and one of the few that opened its doors to a diverse set of students.

Today, the Maret School is located on Cathedral Avenue amid various
central Washington D.C. neighborhoods. Encompassing a pretty significant plot of land of its own, the school looks and feels like it's tucked away from the rest of the city. Its classic mansion-like buildings also give it an old-school academy feel—a nice contrast to its fairly contemporary approach to education. Beyond the standard school facilities such as classrooms, labs, a library, and the like, the Maret School has lush fields and massive outdoor areas where students can play, exercise, and learn.

The Maret School Student Body
The Maret School takes pride in the fact that it has and has always had a diverse student body. Even in its early days, the school was already known for accepting different types of students, regardless of their social statuses and financial situations. Today, the Maret School welcomes about 650 students per year, composed of both new enrollees and those returning who haven't graduated yet. Its diversity now extends to ethnicity too. About 53% of its entire student body is made up of people of color. That's a little more than half of all students in the school.

The Maret School provides a strong curriculum that maintains its status as a college preparatory school. Its heavy focus on academics ensures that the students are challenged enough to take on higher education after they graduate. Many of its alumni have even proven this, having gone on to study in the world's most prestigious schools such as the Ivy League colleges, the
top universities in London, and more. At the same time, the school encourages and supports its students to participate in extracurricular activities too. This has led The Maret School to have some of the best sports teams in the area and beyond.

How Much Does It Cost to Study at Maret School?
Is The Maret School expensive? In the grand scheme of things, yes, it is. Its kindergarten to lower school alone already costs about $44,775.00 per year. Upon reaching middle school, the tuition goes up even further, this time around $48,505.00 per year. And by senior high school, the tuition fees are nearly $51,485.00 per year. Fortunately, especially for the benefit of the students themselves, these tuition fees cover daily lunch meals too. As for other school costs, there's the one-time new student fee of $1,500.00 per student, study materials that can total as high as $500.00, and athletics fees which can go as high as $800.00.
