It was said that Washington had planned to establish a university in the central part of the country but never saw it realized in his lifetime. It was in 1821 when Baptist missionary Luther Rice secured enough funds that was able to construct a large building on College Hill (now Meridian Hill) in
Washington D.C. and formally establish the George Washington University. Then-President James Monroe, who was also one of the school's benefactors approved the university's Congressional Charter.

Where is George Washington University in Washington D.C.?
As already mentioned, George Washington University's main campus takes up most of Foggy Bottom. It's a lovely neighborhood near Downtown D.C. and is famously only a couple of blocks away from the White House. Parts of it are fairly urban, especially those that include the university campuses, while others are fairly residential. The university has even tapped various apartment buildings and the like here to be part of the school housing. There's also the option of
renting a luxury apartment in Washington D.C. instead, especially since Foggy Bottom and its surrounding areas are full of them.
