Accessibility defines Strayer University, one of the top schools in Washington D.C., and beyond. As of this writing, it's one of the very few universities in the American capital that have opened locations outside the city. By the start of the 21st century, the school had set up campuses in Florida, Georgia, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and more. At the same time, its online educational programs are among the most rigorous in the country. Any student can learn from just about anywhere and still earn a degree from this prominent university. What's not to love?

History of Strayer University

While Strayer University is now one of the best-known top schools in Washington D.C., it technically didn't start in the American capital. Dr. Siebert Irving Strayer founded the Strayer Business College in Baltimore, Maryland in 1892. He established the college as a way for former farm workers to learn business skills, including accounting and typing, among other things. The school became so prominent that in 1904, it opened a branch in Washington D.C. Upon its opening, enrollment further expanded, eventually leading to the Washington D.C. Board of Education to authorize the school to grant collegiate degrees in accountancy.

What Does Strayer University Look Like?

Strayer University's D.C. campus is located at 1133 15th St NW, which is fairly near many of Washington D.C.'s central neighborhoods. Though it's a historic school and the campus opened in 1904, it's a fairly small modern building in the middle of the city. There are almost no traces of the academic institution that was established at the turn of the century, which is unique for a university in the city. Many of the top schools in Washington D.C. have retained their old-world campuses, complete with their ornate architecture. Strayer University, on the other hand, looks as contemporary as ever.

The Strayer University Student Body

Strayer University is one of the biggest universities in the US today. Its various campuses throughout the country and its online courses have helped it welcome around 50,000 students per year. Naturally, this includes both new enrollees and those returning who have yet to graduate. As for how many students go to the D.C. campus specifically, there are often over 2,000 students per year. It's far from the biggest student body among the top schools in Washington D.C., but other schools have considerably fewer enrollees too.

Strayer University's Best Programs and Courses

Staying true to its origins, Strayer University remains one of the best business schools in Washington D.C. and beyond. Though the university has since added more academic programs, namely Criminal Justice, Health Services Administration, and Information Technology, its Business and Accounting courses still reign supreme. It also helps that Strayer University's online courses have gained massive popularity too. They've become a great alternative for working students to earn business degrees when they're too busy to attend physical classes on campus. Hence, Strayer University remains a business school at its core.

Strayer University’s Prerequisites

Despite how prominent Strayer University is, its prerequisites aren't that strict. For the most part, its applicants are expected to have the bare minimum for anyone interested in going to college. For undergraduates, this means having at least a high school diploma, and for postgraduates, this means having at least a Bachelor's degree in any related field. At the same time, the school isn't that strict when it comes to grades and test scores. As long as you've passed high school/ undergraduate school and the required standardized tests, you can still qualify for the school.

How Much Does It Cost to Study at Strayer University?

Is it expensive to study at Strayer University? No, not really. Its tuition fee costs around $1,525.00 per year, both for undergraduates and postgraduates. While $1,525.00 is still a pretty high price, especially when you consider how high the living costs in D.C. are, it’s also still considerably lower compared to how much the other top schools in Washington D.C. cost. Even its additional fees are far from expensive too. Textbooks and other school supplies, for example, only cost around $75.00 to $115.00 per course. Using the school's technology also comes with a $65.00 technology fee, which is charged per term. And upon the student's final academic requirements, there's an additional $150.00 evaluation fee.

Where is Strayer University in Washington D.C.?

As already mentioned, Strayer University D.C. campus is located at 1133 15th St NW. Though it's near many of the city's central districts, it's tucked away in a quieter part of the American capital. The area is still pretty lively, but there are nearby parts that are largely residential too. Thus, it's fairly easy for students to find a place to stay near the school. The place has some of the finest luxury apartments in Washington D.C. and is far safer compared to other parts of the city. What more could you ask for?
