History of Trinity Washington University
The Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur founded Trinity Washington University in 1897. Initially named 'Trinity College,' it was chartered by an Act of Congress on August 20, 1897. Upon its founding, the school became the first Catholic liberal arts college for women in the US and continues to be exclusively for women to this day. This is fairly surprising considering that several top schools in
Washington D.C. and various universities all over the US that started as all-male colleges became co-ed, which resulted in Trinity's full-time employment dropping considerably. But the school stood strong and in 2004, it finally gained university status and introduced its new and permanent name—Trinity Washington University.
What Does Trinity Washington University Look Like?
Trinity Washington University is located along Michigan Avenue in the northeast part of the city fairly near many of
Washington D.C.'s central neighborhoods. It's a fairly big campus with a variety of buildings, many of which have remained since its early days at the turn of the 20th century. The Main Hall is one, which was designed by historic architect Edwin Forrest Durang. Among its newer buildings is the Payden Academic Center, which opened in 2016, and houses the school's nursing and science labs. It also serves as the university's main technology hub. Moreover, considering it's a Catholic school, Trinity Washington University's Notre Dame Chapel remains one of the most integral parts of its campus.

The Trinity Washington University Student Body
From what started as a relatively small school, especially since it was the first liberal arts college for women in the US, Trinity Washington University is now a big institution with a big student body. Today, the school welcomes around 1,800 students per year, including both new enrollees and those returning who haven't graduated yet. Its student body is far smaller compared to other, more popular schools in Washington D.C., but it's also among the most diverse. Ethnic minorities make up 95% of all the university's students, with 65% of them African-American and 30% of them Hispanic, among many others.

Though it started as a liberal arts college, Trinity Washington University is now known as one of the finest medical schools for women. Its School of Nursing and Healthcare Professions has produced countless nurses in the country, so much so that the school is widely considered the best for the profession compared to other schools in Washington D.C. that have far more famous medical schools. At the same time, the university's law school and politics-centric programs are not to be overlooked. Many of the school's graduates have gone on to earn prominent positions in the US Government too.

Trinity Washington University's Prerequisites
Though Trinity Washington University has a 97% acceptance rate, the school still requires a lot from its applicants. For one thing, you need to have at least a GPA of 2.5 to qualify for the school. International applicants, on the other hand, will need official school transcripts, recommendation letters, and should have passed any English Proficiency Standard test. For the latter, you'll need at least a 550 on the TOEFL or at least a 6.5 on the IELTS. Considering that applicants will also have to
move to Washington D.C., getting the right visa is vital too.
How Much Does It Cost to Study at Trinity Washington University?
Trinity Washington University takes pride in the fact that it offers high value at low tuition. Its tuition fees cost around $25,800.00 per year, which is still expensive in the grand scheme of things but is far less expensive compared to other top Washington D.C. schools. At the same time, those boarding in the school will only have to pay around $3,800.00 to $4,100.00 per year for their housing, including an additional $8,380.00 per year for in-house meals. On top of all that, there’s also the $15.00 replacement student ID fee and $45.00 to $75.00 parking fees.

Where is Trinity Washington University in Washington D.C.?
As already mentioned, Trinity Washington University is located along Michigan Avenue in the Northeast quadrant of the city. While it's not exactly the city center, it's near enough to the central districts that it's easy for students to find a place to stay near the school. Most notably, the northeast quadrant is where you'll find the White House, the National Mall, and other famous landmarks. As such, it tends to get lively here too. The campus is luckily tucked away in the quieter part of the area and is surrounded by neighborhoods that boast the finest
luxury homes in Washington D.C. for rent.
Trinity Washington University's Famous Graduates
Trinity Washington University boasts an impressive alumni list of some of the most prominent women in the US. Among the most famous and most influential of them is Nancy Pelosi, former Speaker of the United States House of Representatives. Though she no longer holds that office, she remains one of the most powerful women in American politics. Joy Ford Austin, former executive director of Humanities DC, also studied here. As did anthropologist Regina Flannery Herzfeld, political strategist Maria Leavey, and former United States Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius.
