The Waldorf School of Philadelphia is the kind of academic institution that focuses on a student's holistic growth. Such is the foundation of Waldorf schools; this one in Philadelphia is no different. Among the top schools in the city, it offers a safe space for kids to learn, grow, and develop. Here, they're free to explore, find their interests, and work hard to excel in their chosen endeavor. But don't think academics take a back seat here because they don't. The Waldorf School of Philadelphia maintains a nice balance between the two, which is why it's so prestigious.

History of The Waldorf School of Philadelphia

With how prestigious it is now, it's almost hard to believe that it was founded as a playgroup in Philadelphia. The Waldorf School of Philadelphia was established in 1994 as a playgroup for kids whose parents were inspired by Waldorf education. Over time, the school evolved into the respected academic institution it is now, one of the top international schools in Philadelphia. Nevertheless, its foundation as a Waldorf school never changed. The school stayed as faithful as ever to the principles of Waldorf education as set by Austrian philosopher and educator Rudolf Steiner.

What is The Waldorf School of Philadelphia's Campus Like?

The Waldorf School of Philadelphia is housed in a Victorian church-like structure along Wayne Avenue in the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia, one of the quieter areas in the city. The campus looks and feels old-world, which meshes well with the historic Waldorf education upon which the school was founded. Though it may look austere and perhaps even eerie at times, the school still provides a fun and open environment where kids can learn and play freely. It even has ample outdoor space where the students can get some sun, run around, and enjoy their breaks.

The Waldorf School of Philadelphia Student Body

From what started as a playgroup, the Waldorf School of Philadelphia now welcomes over 250 students per year. This is comprised of both new enrollees and returning students who have yet to graduate. It's also a diverse student body, with 62.5% of them White, 13% of them Multiracial, 9.3% Asian, and 7.4% Hispanic. At the same time, 3.2% of them are international students too, consisting of kids who have just moved to Philadelphia and those who participated in the school's exchange student program. Hence, the school stays true to its status as one of the top international schools in Philadelphia.

What is The Waldorf School of Philadelphia's Curriculum?

Waldorf School of Philadelphia faithfully follows the principles of Waldorf education as set by Austrian philosopher and educator Rudolf Steiner. This program is all about a more holistic philosophy in teaching kids, focusing on their intellectual, artistic, and practical skills. As such, the school goes beyond the standard academics. While those are still important, especially in assisting the students to someday take on higher education, they also encourage participating in extracurricular activities and assign unique and interactive projects. This inevitably lets and encourages students to get more involved in their academic journeys.
