Chadwick School is all about development. While most schools in Los Angeles simply teach their kids and only serve as a stepping stone on their path to adulthood, this one goes the extra mile in helping hone young minds and hearts. Even as a nonsectarian independent K-12 day school, Chadwick School centers globalism, diversity, and curiosity in its institution. Here, little ones are free to meet new people, learn at their own pace, discover new things, embrace new ideas, and more. Even in their very young lives, this school already provides a safe space for them to explore and better understand the world at large.

History of Chadwick School

Margaret Lee Chadwick and her husband, Commander Joseph Chadwick, founded the Chadwick School in 1935. They initially set the institution up in San Pedro, California, mostly as an open-air school in her home near Los Angeles. In 1938, the couple managed to buy a plot of land on the Palos Verdes Peninsula and moved the school there, establishing its new and permanent campus. It was also the first high school instituted in the Palos Verdes area. By 1939, Chadwick School had admitted around 75 day and boarding students. In 1963, the Chadwicks retried, which resulted in the creation of the Board of Trustees. Five years later, in 1968, the school officially discontinued its boarding program.

What is Chadwick School's Campus Like?

To this day, Chadwick School is still located on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Though a fair distance away from the central neighborhoods of Los Angeles, it's still within the LA county. Hence, it's easy enough for LA families t send their kids to school here. Even more so since the school boasts a beautiful campus in a more rural part of the county. Its peaceful atmosphere and very green land provide a safe and serene environment for students to learn, grow, and develop at their own pace. At the same time, the school still has all the standard facilities, from spacious classrooms to a well-stocked library.

The Chadwick School Student Body

Chadwick School is one of the biggest schools in Los Angeles in terms of its student body. Today, the school welcomes over 800 students per year, composed of both new enrollees and those returning who have yet to graduate. To break this student body down, over 300 of them are in the Village School (primary school), 200 of them are in the Middle School, and the remaining 300 are in the Senior High School. As for its racial demographics, 30.4% of students are White, 29.3% of them are Asian, 16.4% of them are Multiracial, 6.4% of them are Black, 6.4% of them are Hispanic, 0.2% of them are Native American, and 0.2% of them are Pacific Islander.

What is Chadwick School's Curriculum?

Chadwick School follows the standard American Curriculum, which requires over 13 years of education, starting from pre-K to grade 12. What helps this school stand out among the rest is how well-balanced its educational program is. While academics are still the primary focus in the classroom, Chadwick School still encourages its students to participate in various extracurricular activities. Dedication to the arts, athletics, and more are just as valued as getting good grades. At the same time, the school also works hard to ensure that its students take on higher education after graduating, hopefully getting into the famous Ivy League schools or the top universities in London.

How Much Does It Cost to Study at Chadwick School?

As a nonsectarian, independent private school in California, Chadwick School imposes fairly expensive tuition fees. Its Village School alone, which spans from pre-K to grade 6, already costs $42,060.00 per year. Upon reaching Middle School, from grades 7 to 8, the fee increases to about $47,120.00 per year. By the Upper School, grades 9 to 12, the tuition fee will already cost about $49,660.00 per year. The school imposes additional fees too. There's a transportation fee, for example, which ranges from $625.00 to $2,605.00 per year. New students also have to pay a one-time Matriculation fee, which costs about $1,750.00 per student.

Where is Chadwick School in Los Angeles?

As already mentioned, Chadwick School is located on California's Palos Verdes Peninsula. Though it's relatively near Los Angeles, it's still a fair distance away from its central and more urban districts. In a way, even though it's it is its own municipality, Palos Verdes is more like a distant suburb of LA. The area is largely residential and rural, allowing affluent families to live a more peaceful life on the West Coast. Naturally, the place has countless homes on offer, from massive mansions to several luxury apartments to rent in California. It's easy enough for any family to stay near the school.
