Contrary to its name, California's
Oxford Academy doesn't have anything to do with the famous university in the UK. This is a public high school in Cypress, California and consistently ranks among the top schools in the state. So if there's any connection between the two, it's that they both provide high-quality education. While many of the other top schools in Los Angeles are private, Oxford Academy proves that a respected academic institution can still be public and free of charge. They welcome all kids in the area who want to learn and be guided towards the right path.

History of Oxford Academy
Oxford Academy has had quite a rocky history over the years. The school building that serves as its campus was built in 1960 and originally housed the Anaheim Union High School District's new middle school at the time. Five years later, the Oxford Junior High School was established in
Los Angeles and operated in the same building for years. But in 1980, the school's declining enrollment resulted in the school closing down, thus, the site was used for all sorts of institutions. It wasn't until 1998 that the Oxford Academy finally took over the building, established as a response to the district-wide school overcrowding during the late 90s.
What is Oxford Academy's Campus Like?
Oxford Academy is located on Orange Avenue in Cypress, California. Though it's technically a separate city, it's near enough to the
central neighborhoods of Los Angeles that it's easy for residents to send their kids here. As it's only a middle and senior high school, the academy fits right well with the original school building that was built here in 1960. Nevertheless, Oxford Academy is as complete a campus can be. It has all the standard school facilities, including big classrooms, equipped laboratories, a big library, a massive cafeteria, and even some outdoor spaces.

The Oxford Academy Student Body
From what started as a small school on a relatively limited campus, Oxford Academy now boasts a fairly big student body. Today, the school welcomes over 1,200 students per year, composed of both new enrollees and those returning who have yet to graduate. The student body is spread pretty evenly throughout the different grades of middle and senior high school here. About each level has more or less 200 students per year, allowing for a well-maintained balance per grade. As for its racial demographics. Oxford Academy is made up of around 71.42% Asian students, 18.14% Hispanic students, 6.44% White students, 2.33% Multiracial students, 0.93% Black students, and 0.62% Native American students.
What is Oxford Academy's Curriculum?
Despite its name, Oxford Academy follows the standard American High School Diploma program. The subjects taught here are generally the same as those in other schools in Los Angeles, namely Mathematics, Science, English, Social Studies, and more. At the same time, the school maintains a nice balance between focusing on academics and allowing students to participate in extracurricular activities. The teachers still encourage students to get good grades, but they also don't push them to pursue athletics, the arts, and more if the kids are devoted to such endeavors.
Where is Oxford Academy in Los Angeles?
As already mentioned, Oxford Academy is located in Cypress, California, a separate city from Los Angeles. Fortunately, the school is near enough to the city center that it's easy for LA families to send their kids to school here. As for what Cypress is like, it's a typical American town with a lot of hustle and bustle. Luckily, it's less busy compared to Los Angeles, making it a great place to stay for families relocating to California. Even the areas that surround Oxford Academy are largely residential and mostly suburban. They have some of the best
luxury homes to rent in California.
