History of California State University, Los Angeles
California State University, Los Angeles was founded on July 2, 1947, through an act of the California legislature. It was initially named the Los Angeles State College and was part of the Los Angeles City College (LACC), a public community college in East Hollywood,
Los Angeles. As president of the LACC at the time, P. Victor Peterson also served as the acting president of the state college. The school started with only 136 students, one of the smaller schools in Los Angeles back then, and grew to welcome as many as 2,000 at least two years later.
