History of Nottingham Trent University
The Nottingham Trent University that operates today is a result of an amalgamation of various, former higher educational institutions in
Nottingham. Among the first of them was the Nottingham Government School of Design, which was founded in 1843. Over the years, other schools were established. There's the Nottingham and District Technical College from 1945, Nottingham Regional College of Technology from 1958, the Nottingham College of Education from 1959, and the Nottingham Regional College from 1966. All of these institutions were merged together and upgraded to Polytechnic status in 1970, becoming the Trent Polytechnic and, eventually, the Nottingham Polytechnic in 1988. The school then officially earned university status and became Nottingham Trent University in 1992.

Today, the school welcomes over 40,000 students per year, including both new enrollees and those returning who have yet to graduate. To break it down even further, the university is divided into around 32,000 undergraduates and about 8,000 postgraduates. Nottingham Trent University's acceptance rate is 20%, which makes it relatively easier to get into compared to other higher educational institutions, especially the
top universities in London. Though it's still worth noting that applying here is not as seamless as it may seem. For example, applicants shouldn't have grades below a C for various A-level subjects, namely English, Psychology, and Geography. International applicants should also have passed English proficiency tests. The school requires at least a 7.0 score for IELTS or a C/4 for GCSE.
How Much Does It Cost to Study at Nottingham Trent University?
While it's fair to say that Nottingham Trent University is expensive, it's also worth mentioning that it's one of the more affordable universities in the UK. Its undergraduate tuition fees, for example, range from £17,500.00 to £18,250.00 per year. The Nottingham School of Art & Design and Nottingham Business School impose the more expensive fees. As for its postgraduate tuition fees, they range from £17,850.00 to £19,900.00 per year. They're far from the most expensive in the country, but these are still high prices. As already mentioned, Nottingham Trent University's campus is spread throughout Nottingham. Its main campus, for instance, is located just north of the city center. Its proximity to the central districts make it easier for students to stay near the school, even those who aren't living in the dorms. Fortunately, these areas also have some of the best
luxury apartments in Nottingham. Most of them are fairly affordable, even for those going to school here. Nevertheless, the Nottingham city center is urban and lively but still less hectic than London and other big cities.
