Not only is Nottingham Academy one of the best schools in Nottingham, but it's also one of the largest in all of Europe. That alone should tell you how amazing this academic institution truly is, both in the UK and the world at large. Nottingham Academy was born out of a merger of various schools, bringing their significant history and outstanding legacies. Today, the school stands on its own, complete with an expansive campus, a detailed school curriculum, and a safe space where kids are free to learn, explore, grow, and develop.

History of Nottingham Academy

Nottingham Academy was established in 2009, as a result of three previous schools in Nottingham merging. The first and the most notorious was Elliot Durham School, a deeply unpopular comprehensive that served St. Ann's, one of the city's poorest neighborhoods. The school was so bad that it was labeled the third worst school in the UK in 2007. Another was the Greenwood Dale School in Sneinton, Nottingham. In contrast to Elliot Durham School, this school was popular among parents, even to the point that it was often too full and could no longer accept new enrollees. Lastly, there was the Jesse Boot School, a primary school in Bakersfield that was housed in such an old building, that it needed a new campus.

What is Nottingham Academy's Campus Like?

One of the best things about Nottingham Academy is that it boasts a new and massive campus. Though the three previous schools that merged to create the academy were around for decades, none of them have retained their original campuses. Nottingham Academy is, however, located where these schools once stood. Hence, its campuses are spread throughout different neighborhoods in Nottingham. There's the Greenwood Campus on its namesake road, for example, which is the bigger of the two. It has all the standard school facilities, including massive school grounds and well-equipped laboratories. The other is on Sneiton Boulevard, which is smaller but still complete in terms of its facilities.

The Nottingham Academy Student Body

As a merger of three previous schools, it makes sense that Nottingham Academy is one of the biggest schools in Nottingham, at least in terms of its student body. Today, the school welcomes almost 3,000 students per year, comparatively more than many other academic institutions in the city. Naturally, this includes both new enrollees and old students who have yet to graduate, and their ages range from as young as 3 years old to 19 years old. It's a good thing that the academy's campuses are fully equipped and big enough to accommodate this many students.

What is Nottingham Academy's Curriculum?

It's worth noting Nottingham Academy's curriculum is designed to secure its students a solid foundation to continue into higher education, even though the academy doesn't operate or present itself as a college preparatory school. All students, for example, are required to study a set of subjects from primary school to senior high school. They include Mathematics, Science, English, and more. At the same time, Nottingham Academy still encourages its students to participate in extracurricular activities too, even more so since its campuses allow for various facilities to help them.

Where is Nottingham Academy in Nottingham?

As already mentioned, Nottingham Academy has two different campuses in Nottingham. There's the Greenwood campus in Bakersfield and the Sneiton campus. Fortunately, both places are suburbs, largely residential districts that are a fair distance away from the city center. This makes them suitable for family living, especially since the neighborhoods boast more peaceful vibes, lower crime rates, and some of the finest luxury homes in Nottingham. Bakersfield and Sneiton are some of the best places for any family settling down in the city all while staying close to the central districts.
