Nottingham High School is undoubtedly one of the finest schools in Nottingham. Housed in a grand Gothic Revival manor just north of the city center, it's a private co-ed school providing high-quality education for both boys and girls. By only such a description, the school seems like a run-of-the-mill academic institution in the UK, but in truth, it's a lot more than that. Nottingham High School continues its legacy of teaching the next generation, training them to be the best they can be, no matter their field, and preparing them for the real world.

History of Nottingham High School

Not only is Nottingham High School the most historic school in Nottingham, but it's also one of the oldest schools in all of the UK. Dame Agnes Mellers, wife of the Lord Mayor of Nottingham at the time, founded the high school in 1513, in part for her late husband's memory and as atonement for their wrongdoing against the city and its citizens. She sought help from Sir Thomas Lovell in establishing the academic institution and on November 22nd of that year, Henry VIII sealed the school's foundation deed. As such, Nottingham High School is one of the very few schools from the Tudor Dynasty that still operate today.

What is Nottingham High School's Campus Like?

Nottingham High School's long and extensive history is best reflected in its campus. The school is located on Waverly Mount to the north of the city center. Though it's a fair distance away from Nottingham's central neighborhoods, it's still near enough that families who live in the city can easily send their kids to school here. The school's main building, a grand example of Gothic Revival architecture designed by Thomas Simpson, boasts multiple wings and corridors that house classrooms for English, Mathematics, and Geography classes. It also has a pretty famous tower that's tall enough to overlook the city center.

The Nottingham High School Student Body

Nottingham High School is one of the biggest schools in Nottingham when it comes to its student body too. Today, the school typically welcomes around 1,000 to 1,100 students per year, including both new enrollees and those returning who have yet to graduate. To break it down even further, over 200 of them are part of the Sixth-Form school while the rest are spread to the senior and junior high schools. It's also worth noting that the school started welcoming even more students in 2015 when it officially became a co-ed school.

What is Nottingham High School's Curriculum?

Despite its name, Nottingham High School isn't just a secondary education institution. It also has a preschool, kindergarten, primary school, middle school, and a sixth-form school. Hence, its students' ages range from 4 years old to 18 years old. It's also because of this that the school's curriculum is pretty diverse too. Nottingham High School offers a wide range of subjects, including GCSE, Advanced Subsidiary-Level (AS-level), and General Certificate of Education Advanced-Level (GCE A-level). The sixth-form school also includes extra subjects that aren't even taught in other schools in Nottingham, namely Ancient Greek Art, French, Latin, Statistics, and more.

How Much Does It Cost to Study at Nottingham High School?

Though Nottingham High School is a private, co-ed day school, it's far from the most expensive in the city. This isn't to say that enrolling your kids here won't cost you a lot—the school still costs a pretty penny, especially when you consider how high the living costs in Nottingham already are. Nevertheless, since its tuition fees mostly cost around £4,297.00 to £7,279.00 per term, Nottingham High School is still less expensive than other academic institutions in the UK. When you add all that up together, you'll mostly spend about £14,267.00 to £20,833.00 per year.

Where is Nottingham High School in Nottingham?

As already mentioned, Nottingham High School is located on Waverley Mount just north of the city center. It's one of the more residential parts of the city, complete with humble households and crowded residences. Despite this, however, the area is not considered part of the suburbs. Nottingham still has more outer, residential districts that are more suburban than this place. But this doesn't mean that the area isn't suitable for families. Since the neighborhood also has some of the finest luxury homes in Nottingham, you can easily settle down here with family and live near the school.
