When Jack Meyer opened
St. Lawrence College in 1980, he probably didn't know that he just established what would be one of the best international schools in Athens. Providing high-quality education to over a thousand students in the city, parents couldn't have asked for a finer academic institution that will teach and take care of their kids. St. Lawrence College even goes above and beyond in educating children. The school works hard to ensure that all students will be given more than enough chances to get into higher education, possibly even in some of the most prestigious universities.

History of St. Lawrence College
English educationalist Jack Meyer, who founded the Millfield public school in Somerset, England, also founded St Lawrence College (SLC) in 1980. Set as a private independent school in
Athens, it was one of the first British international schools in the country. At the time, there were virtually no such academic institutions in Greece, much less in Athens. However, since the Greek capital already had a substantial British community at the time, they needed a school to accommodate their children. Hence, schools like St. Lawrence College (and a few years later, Byron College) were established. The school started with 60 students and expanded pretty rapidly, eventually having about 1,000 kids in its student body.
What is St. Lawrence College's Campus Like?
St. Lawrence College is located in Koropi, a suburban
neighborhood of Athens. Set in East Attica, the town is largely rural despite its proximity to the very urban Greek capital. It's thanks to this location that St. Lawrence College boasts a fairly big campus with several school facilities. There are spacious classrooms, well-equipped laboratories, a big gymnasium, a swimming pool, and more. The school's layout and look are even more reminiscent of a luxury resort instead of a standard school, which helps the students enjoy their time here better.

The St. Lawrence College Student Body
From what started as a small school of only 60 students, St. Lawrence College now has one of the biggest student bodies among the international schools in Athens. Today, the school welcomes as many as 1,000 students per year, composed of both new enrollees and those returning who have yet to graduate. Since it's a British academic institution, it draws in both local and international students, specifically those from nearby countries. As for how old they are, St. Lawrence College's students range from as young as 3 years old to as old as 18 years old.
What is St. Lawrence College's Curriculum?
Considering that St. Lawrence College was established to provide British education in Athens, it's no surprise that the school follows the UK National Curriculum. As a result, what students learn at St. Lawrence College is largely the same as those who study in the top schools in London, Nottingham, Manchester, and the rest of England. The curriculum mostly focuses on a certain set of subjects taught in the majority of British schools. This includes English, English Literature, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Social Studies, and more. At the same time, St. Lawrence College also encourages its students to participate in extracurricular activities, namely athletics and the arts.

How Much Does It Cost to Study at St. Lawrence College?
Is it expensive to enroll your kids at St. Lawrence College? Yes, it is. While it's not exactly the most expensive international school in Athens, its tuition fees are still high. Even more so when you consider how high the
living costs in Athens already are. If your kid begins their scholastic journey at St. Lawrence College, the starting tuition fee (for pre-K, specifically) is €8.496.00 per year. As they ascend each level, the tuition fees increase too. It becomes €11,814.00 per year for primary school, €13,239.00 per year for middle school, and €13,788.00 per year for senior high school. Moreover, there's also a one-time €1,500.00 registration fee, a €1,329.00 music fee, and €1,420.00 for summer school.
Where is St. Lawrence College in Athens?
As already mentioned, St. Lawrence College is located in Koropi, an outer suburb of Athens. The area is in East Attica, a popular region in Greece's mainland that's near the capital city. Koropi itself is considerably more rural than Athens, making for a more peaceful atmosphere and lesser hustle and bustle. This largely provincial ambiance makes it a great place for families to settle down near the capital, especially since it's much safer here than in Athens itself. It also helps that Koropi—and East Attica, in general—has some of the most affordable
luxury homes in Athens.
