History of Byron College
Byron College was established in
Athens in 1986. At the time, there weren't that many international schools in Greece. Among that was already operating is Athens College, which is an American school located in the suburban district of Psychiko. But for the Greek capital's British community, they saw the need for another international school that would better accommodate their children. Hence, Byron College opened as one of the first British international schools in Athens. Though it embraced the country's culture, its curriculum and operations remained largely British. It's also because of this that the college rose to become one of the finest academic institutions in Greece.
What is Byron College's Campus Like?
Byron College is located in Gerakas, a suburban
neighborhood of Athens. Though it's a fair distance away from the central districts, it's still close enough that families in the city can easily send their kids to school here. Its location in one of the more provincial parts of the area gives it ample room to have a massive campus. Today, Byron College boasts big school buildings with spacious classrooms, well-equipped laboratories, a big library, and even ample outdoor spaces for sports. There's a tennis court, a swimming pool, a race track, and more.

The Byron College Student Body
Despite its big campus, Byron College doesn't have that big of a student body. Today, the school only welcomes about 560 students per year, composed of both new enrollees and those returning who haven't graduated yet. In comparison, Athens College, one of the oldest and most well-known international schools in Athens, has over 3,000 students per year. This further proves that Byron College is a more exclusive academic institution that's selective with the kind of students they admit. Nevertheless, the school is open to all kids around the world. Even with its 560 students, most of them come from over 50 different countries and only 30% of the student body is Greek.
What is Byron College's Curriculum?
Byron College takes its role as a British international school in Athens seriously. The school's curriculum is the UK National Curriculum, which means that subjects taught here are largely the same taught in
top schools in London, Manchester, Nottingham, and other parts of England. Hence, the school also teaches English, English Literature, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Social Studies, Art, Music, and more. At the same time, Byron College also encourages its students to participate in extracurricular activities. It's pretty evident with its campus alone since it's packed with various sports facilities to help train the school teams.

How Much Does It Cost to Study at Byron College?
With how prestigious and relatively exclusive it is, it's surprising that Byron College's tuition fees are far from the highest in the city. They're still pretty high, especially when you consider the
living costs in Athens, but compared to how much other schools cost, they're largely lower or slightly the same. Overall, enrolling your kids at Byron College costs a minimum of €7,500.00 to a maximum of €12,500.00 per year. Fortunately, the school allows for a three-time installment payment plan, which makes it easier for certain households to pay the full tuition fee by the end of the school year.
Where is Byron College in Athens?
As already mentioned, Byron College is located in Gerakas, a suburb of Athens. Despite its proximity to the Greek capital, the town is largely provincial, almost rural with how nature dominates the area. It's famous for its namesake beach and beautiful coast, almost as if it's on a Greek Island instead of part of mainland Greece, much less the city of Athens. With that said, its more peaceful atmosphere and largely untouched environment make it a great place for families to settle down in the city. Especially since Gerakas has some of the most affordable
luxury homes in Athens.
