Atlanta Montessori International School was founded in 2004, making it one of the newer international schools in
Atlanta. Before that, there were already two separate Montessori schools in the city, namely Springmont School (established in 1963) and Casa dei Bambini Montessori School (established in 1974). Though most such educational institutions only began in Atlanta in the late 20th century, Montessori schools have been around since 1907. Italian educator Maria Montessori opened the first Montessori school in 1907 in Rome. She changed the educational landscape by establishing a school that focused more on how children learn naturally.
