What does a typical day in
London look like? Eating at a traditional pub? Visiting Buckingham Palace? Riding the London Eye? One of the best things about London is that there are a million things you can do here, making it one of the most exciting destinations in the world. If it's your first time here or you just relocated to the city, it's worth having the quintessential London day. These include iconic sights, famous places to visit, and even staple snacks to eat, all representing why the British capital is a much-beloved metropolis.
Start with The Famous Landmarks
If it's your first time in London, you'll want to see the famous landmarks first. There's the iconic Big Ben clocktower,
Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, Westminster Abbey, St. Paul's Cathedral, and the Tower Bridge, among many others. Now, this isn't to say that you'll get to see all of these in one day, but it's worth starting with the most popular ones first. Not only will you finally be able to say that you've seen these world-famous posts in person, but you'll also feel like you won't have to see them (and content with their crowds) again (at least, for a long time!).
Go Museum-hopping
Museum-hopping may seem like a cliche and very touristy thing to do in London, but there's no denying that the city has such amazing galleries. Again, if it's your first time here, you'll want to do away with the most famous ones, namely The British Museum, Natural History Museum, Victoria Albert Museum, and the National Portrait Gallery. As crowded as these places tend to get, they're still worth checking out at least once! After you've seen them, you can now focus on arguably the more fascinating
underrated museums in London, including the cool Sherlock Holmes Museum or the historic and very pretty Strawberry Hill House.
Take Selfies right by London's Royal Palaces
Don't forget to take some selfies! In this day and age, there's no better proof of having been to a city than taking a selfie in front of its most famous attraction. Is it cliche and touristy, sure, but it's also fun and makes for a memorable photo for you too. And in the case of London, you'll want to take your selfies in front of its royal palaces. Naturally, the first one you have to take is right by Buckingham Palace! You could even strategize your shot so that you can include a furry-hatted King's guard too! Then there's Kensington Palace, St. James's Palace, and Eltham Palace, each more majestic than the next!
Shop As The Royals Do
What's great about spending a day in London is that you won't just get to see where the British Royals live, you could shop like them too! These king, queen, dukes, duchesses, princes, and princesses may have their clothes, shoes, accessories, and more tailored and sent to them, but they mostly come from labels, boutiques, and shops that are also open to the public. The men's tailor shop Anderson & Sheppard, British fashion behemoth Burberry, and beloved London fashion house Daks are just some of the places
where the British Royal Family shops in London. They will cost an arm and a leg but nobody ever said that dressing like a king would be cheap!
Catch a Match at Wembley Stadium
There are a few things you could do to truly feel like a bonafide Londoner. Eat at a local pub, do your shopping at the nearby Waitrose or Tesco, and of course, catch a football game live! The others you can do just about anywhere in the city, but if you want to do the latter, you'll want to do it at Wembley Stadium, the UK's largest stadium. Not only is it already an iconic sports venue, but it regularly has a match. It just goes to show just how much London loves football, and you can learn all of that if you also take the Wembley Tour!
See The Deer at Richmond Park
Richmond Park is undeniably one of the more unique
quintessential parks of London. Not only is it a breathtaking green space in the middle of the British capital, complete with sweeping landscapes and countryside-like scenery, but it's also famous for its wild deer. No matter the time of year (though they tend to rest and hide during winter), wild fallow and red deer roam freely in Richmond Park. They add a touch of fairytale-like magic to a city park, something that not even London's other green spaces can boast about. You do need to be careful when trying to feed and pet them.
Dine in a Traditional Pub
Looks like it's getting dark and dinnertime is fast approaching! You know what to do next, right? Dine in a pub! Nothing is quite as British as eating dinner at a local pub. Most people in the UK do it, not just Londoners, and it's not hard to see why. Such places never fail to serve amazing food and provide an awesome ambiance for a good time. It's not just that these are great places to eat, but it's as if they're designed to meet new people, make friends, and have a ball. As for the
best pubs in London you simply have to try, don't miss The Harp in Covent Garden or Pembury Tavern in East London!
Laugh Out Loud at a Comedy Club
Now, after dinner, a fun day in London typically ends in one of three ways. The first is catching a stand-up show in some of
London's best comedy clubs. You've likely already surmised by watching movies and TV series that British humor is something else. It's not just uniquely fry, but it can also be crass (in a fun way), irreverent, and absurd. Hence, seeing a British comic do their thing at the nearest comedy club is often a must in London. The 99 Club never fails to with industry veterans and emerging stars. The Backyard Comedy Club on Cambridge Heath Road, on the other hand, has featured the likes of Alan Carr and Jo Brand.
Go Clubbing in SoHo
The second way Londoners end their free day in London is to go clubbing in
SoHo. At least, that's how the chic and more cosmopolitan Londoners prefer to finish off their weekends. SoHo's nightlife scene is a huge part of why it's one of the trendiest
neighborhoods in London. Not only do they serve the most intoxicating drinks and often feature superstar DJs, but it's also not far-fetched to bump into and rub elbows with A-list stars here. They're usually in spots like Cirque Le Soir on Ganton Street, Archer Street Soho on (you guessed it!) Archer Street, and Village Soho on Wardour Street.
Watch a Show at The West End
Finally, the third most common way Londoners would end their day in London is to see a show at the West End. Everyone knows that the area boasts some of the
best theaters in London, always featuring the most entertaining musicals, the most riveting dramas, or the funniest comedies. Londoners love theater too, so if you truly want to feel like one, especially after
moving to London yourself, you'll want to watch a show or two when you can. As such, expect to go to the Princes of Wales Theatre, Lyceum Theatre, or the Apollo Theatre now and then.
What does the quintessential day in London truly look like? Before heading to the more unique parts of the city, you ought to first experience the London the world knows about. You'll gain a better appreciation for London too.
