Can You Live in a Micro Apartment?

In this day and age, living in micro apartments has practically become the norm. These very small, compact, but still comfortable properties are only about less than 350 square feet/ 32 square meters in size, offering only limited space for your dwelling. With big cities becoming more and more crowded these days, it's become trendier to live in these cozy rentals, especially those who live alone. But can you live in a micro apartment? With such small spaces on offer, residing in such real estate isn't for everyone. It'll be easier for you to call one home if you're relatively fit, don't have a lot of space, and don't mind multifunctional furniture, among many others.

Are You Claustrophobic?

First things first, are you claustrophobic? Because if you are, you can forget about getting a micro apartment. Maybe you considered living in one because you prefer to live alone? Well, if you're claustrophobic, then you'll have a harder time than simply sharing a bigger place with someone else. Micro apartments truly take the 'micro' in their title seriously in the sense that they truly are the tiniest homes available. Take the Big Apple, for instance. Did you know that there are apartments for rent in New York City that are as small as 55 square feet/ 5 square meters? Anyone would feel claustrophobic just hearing about it!

What's Your Lifestyle?

Next up, let's talk about your lifestyle. Though any lifestyle can technically fit a micro apartment, not all of them suit such a small and limited space. Take, for example, someone who leads an active lifestyle. Maybe they love doing yoga too! Wouldn't it be better to get a place that has enough room for yoga and other exercises? Those who work from home would suit more spacious apartments too, especially ones that can fit an entire home office. Though the right layout can make any of these possible in a micro apartment, it's easier to get a big home instead.

Are You a Minimalist?

Speaking of lifestyles, minimalists would undoubtedly suit a micro apartment better. If you are one, there's a good chance you prefer to live in a smaller apartment, right? Since the lifestyle encourages simplicity above all else, also known as having only the essentials and barely anything else, a micro apartment is practically more than enough. The lack of extra stuff gives you more space, even if your home is only about 190 square feet/ 17 square meters. And yes, there are such tiny micro apartments, especially in big cities like Paris, London, New York, Tokyo, and more.

Do You Live Alone?

This isn't to say that micro apartments are reserved for those who live alone, but there's no denying that they do suit such small spaces better. Since it's just, you can maximize the entire apartment, no matter how small it is, to fit your lifestyle and fill it with anything and everything you love. Living with someone else, be it your spouse, another family member, or simply a roommate, forces you to share the already limited space with them. It's still possible, though, and quite common in big cities. But if you can, you'd do well to live in a micro apartment alone.

Do You Live on a Budget?

As already mentioned, micro apartments are common in big cities like London, Tokyo, New York, Paris, and the like. Let's focus on London for now, which currently has about 8.866 million residents. London's living costs are notoriously high, so not everyone can live in a pricey multi-bedroom apartment. Luckily, renting a micro apartment is a more budget-friendly option. Studio flats can go as low as around £900.00 per month, which is still something considering that the average rent in all of London ranges from £1,500.00 and £2,100.00 per month. Not too bad, right?

Are You Fit?

While it's not necessarily a requirement to be fit to live in a micro apartment—or any other type of property, for that matter—it would still tremendously help! For this point, let's go to Paris! Did you know that you can get a studio apartment in Paris that's as small as 96 square feet/ 9 square meters? If you're lucky, it'll have a loft bed that allows for more space for the other parts of the home. And if that's the case, being fit will help you get to your sleeping area more easily. Even more so since it's more than likely that the only way to get your loft bed is to climb a ladder.

Do You Eat Out Regularly?

Let's stay in Paris for this next one. It might be better for you to eat out in Paris regularly if you live in a micro apartment. This isn't to say that such properties are too small for you to eat there—though this is the care for many of the tiniest apartments in the city—but you might have a better time dining somewhere else instead. You'll have more room and you don't have to stress about cooking in a very small kitchen. Don't worry! Micro apartments can still fit kitchens (or rather, kitchenettes) and the bigger ones still have room for a dining area.

Are You Home Often?

Finally, a micro apartment arguably suits someone who's not always at home. Those who work outside, those who travel for work (or leisure but do it often), those who socialize & attend events, and more. Again, this isn't to say that homebodies won't be comfortable in a micro apartment. There's still a lot to do and fit in a 350 square feet/ 32 square meter home that won't let the limited space stay boring. But for those who live in much smaller properties, you can simply use the space for sleeping and relaxing while you spend most of your day outside.

Can You Live in a Micro Apartment?

Do you think you can live in a micro apartment? Not everyone is equipped to reside in such small, limited spaces. But if you are, you'll find that there are many benefits to staying in a micro apartment, both for you and for those around you!
