Until recently, brunch in Paris meant a coffee and a croissant with a side of cigarettes. But in the last few years a whole slew of places have opened which specialise in breakfast and brunch. You’ll be able to find everything from healthy acai bowls to less healthy pancakes. While brunch in Paris might not be on the same level as in London and New York yet, it’s definitely worth seeking out these places for your avocado on toast fix.
Rivié at the Hoxton Hotel
The team behind the Hoxton Hotel can seemingly do no wrong with their recently-opened Parisian outpost serving up the same homely charm as it’s other branches. The Rivié restaurant is a great place to pop into any time of day but we especially love their brunch. Try their avocado-based cocktail for a new spin on an old favourite and sink your teeth into their moreish pancakes. They also have healthier options like a Buddha bowl and granola.

You’ll immediately spot Cafe Oberkampf as you approach because it usually has a crowd of trendy young things hanging outside and a queue snaking round the block. With only a dozen seats inside, getting a table isn’t easy but it’s worth it to try their signature shakshuka dish as well as the very instagrammable cheese sandwich.

Holybelly has become a bit of a Paris institution for brunch thanks to its extensive menu that includes everything from sausage patties to freshly marinated feta. The owners describe it as a Melbourne-style cafe and it definitely has an international feel with English menus and a whole host of different dishes spanning every corner of the culinary globe. Make sure you try the coffee too. It’s some of the best in the city.

If we could move into Fragments, we would. This cozy cafe has everything you could ever want, from a well thought out menu to quality coffee, friendly staff and jazz music on vinyl. All the coffees can be served dairy free with soy or nut milk which is still a rarity in France and their avocado on toast is the stuff of legend. There are only 5 items on the menu but that’s all you need. A few things done well.

Reserve a table at this St Germain favourite, or turn up and put your name on the waiting list before having a walk around the neighbourhood. As the name suggests, they specialise in eggs, eggs and more eggs. Try the Benedict or the omelette and enjoy people watching in this airy cafe.

Café Méricourt
Close to the Marais area, this is the perfect place to stop after a morning shopping trip. It opened in mid-2017 and comes from the creators of Café Oberkampf but here you can book online for morning sittings which means no more queuing. Expect specialty coffees, fluffy pancakes and a breakfast roll that will cure even the worst champagne hangover.

Spend a Saturday in Montmartre and schedule a stop at this cozy neighbourhood favourite. Their brunch menu is all about comfort food with a healthy(ish) spin, so expect things like toad in the hole with avocado and waffles dusted in Nutella and sugar. Their cakes are also worth a look, so we wouldn’t blame you if you got dessert.

We love a restaurant that does one thing and does it well. And that’s exactly why we love Benedict. It’s a whole restaurant dedicated to perfecting the brunch classic. Choose from salmon or ham or opt for a more extravagant black truffle version. The sides include mac and cheese or fries and the atmosphere is bustling and hurried. So don’t head here for a long lazy brunch. Once you’ve finished you’re conveniently located for a weekend walk around the Marais district. The perfect way to spend a Sunday.
