Paris' Le Marais: Good Reasons to Live Here

Living in Paris seems like a dream, doesn't it? Like a type of lifestyle that you've probably only seen in movies and on TV. However, in contrast to what all sorts of media have told you, there's no one way to live in Paris. The truth of the matter is the French capital is made up of diverse districts, each more unique than the next. While there may be certain activities that all Parisians do, the lifestyles they lead depending on their neighborhood differ vastly. Though it's safe to say that the one area here in which you can live out the 'quintessentially Parisian lifestyle' is Le Marais.

Paris' Le Marais: Good Reasons to Live Here

It's a Peaceful Neighborhood

Despite being a famous area in Paris, Le Marais is actually a homely neighborhood. It's one of the more peaceful ones among all of Paris' districts, mostly because it's a largely residential area. Luxury rentals and upscale townhouses make up most of the structures here, with a majority of the rest a boatload of cafes, restaurants, and the like. This is the type of place in a big city wherein a family can live just as peacefully as they would have done had they lived in the suburbs. But, of course, there's still that urban Parisian charm thrown into the mix.

Easily Accessible

It'd be a commuter's dream to live in Le Marais. This neighborhood is entirely accessible no matter what Parisian public transport system you take. There are loads of bus stops in the area—partially at every corner—a lot of taxis drive by this part of the city all the time, and the Saint-Paul metro station is one of the most known in the city. Whether you're going to work or you're seeing your friends in a different part of Paris, you can easily go to and from Le Marais without any hassle. And that's always one the best parts of living in big cities like the French capital.

A Vintage Side of Paris

What makes Paris beautiful? Apart from the famous parks and flower-filled gardens, it's the classic architecture that makes the French capital such a feast for the eyes. You'll really feel like you traveled back in time—to a variety of different eras, in fact—when you see just how classic most of the structures are here. And Le Marais is the perfect example. From the pre-war-style apartment buildings to the gothic churches, this district looks more like a history book than a neighborhood in the 21st-century. But that's the whole charm of the place. You won't see anything quite like it anywhere else.

Spend Your Free Days Shopping

Le Marais is part of those wonderful districts that prove why Paris is a shopping capital. You can literally shop until you drop here, and that's not even an exaggeration. There are so many places in this part of the city where you can spend all your hard-earned cash, be they on designer clothing or cool bargains. From outlet stores that sell big-named brands to quirky boutiques that offer one-of-a-kind pieces you won't see anywhere else, it's a shopper's dream to live in his neighborhood and shop every weekend. Some great options here include Village St. Paul, Bazar de l’Hotel de Ville, and Le Marché des Enfants Rouges, among many others.

Bistros and Bakeries

Living in Le Marais means you'll never go hungry. Why would you when there's more than a boatload of bistros and bakeries in this area? To start your day, you can have brunch in Bar du Marché des Blancs Manteaux where there's a buffet of fine french food just waiting to be devoured. Paris has many great brunch places and this is certainly one of them! Up for a quick snack for your lunch break? Head on over to L’As du Falafel and get their famous Middle-Eastern delicacy. And for dinner, you can either get a big sandwich from prominent bakery Legay Choc or try the tacos at Candelaria

It's Lively At Night

Finally. if you're a night owl and prefer to enjoy the "City of Lights" when it's sparkling, Le Marais has a ton of great bars, clubs, and more to keep you out and about after dark! CUD, La Resistance, and freedj are just some of the go-to hotspot you have to visit at least once in this part of the city. They show a different side of Paris—the wild and exciting side—that you normally wouldn't see unless you actually live here. They further prove that, while Le Marais is undeniably a beautiful and peaceful area, there's still a little liveliness here even after the sun has set!
